A group of aviation stakeholders under the umbrella of the “League of Patriotic Aviation Practitioners of Nigeria” have described Ahmed Joda’s transition committee’s recommendation of merging debt-ridden airlines operating in Nigeria into a national carrier as an invitation to crisis.

The group also said the proposal would entrench monopoly and the elimination of competition which would ultimately lead to inefficiencies and corruption.

In an advertorial published in LEADERSHIP NEWSPAPER titled “10 AVIATION FACTS ON THE JODA REPORT”, the stakeholders hinted that the purpose of consummating a merger should be to achieve common benefits in the form of financial, operational or profitability gains and not to be seen as a solution to debt.

The group also acknowledged that although the airlines owe the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria, AMCON, a total of about N150Billion, the same airlines contribute over N25Billion per annum to the Federal Government revenues.
