Manchester United have agreed to a deal with Bayern Munich to sign Bastian Schweinsteiger, the club has announced.
The German World Cup winning midfielder is expected to pen a three-year deal at Old Trafford, where he will reunite with former Bayern manager Louis van Gaal.
He will become the first German player ever to feature in United's first team.
A short club statement read: "Manchester United is delighted to announce it has reached agreement with Bayern Munich to sign midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger, subject to a medical and personal terms."

It came just moments after Bayern Munich chief executive Karl-Heinz Rummenigge confirmed the move was on the cards.
"Bastian wants to do something new at the end of his career," said Rummenigge. "He asked that we meet his wishes."
"My colleagues at Manchester United have been in touch. We've reached an agreement over a transfer.
"It's regrettable because Bastian meant a great deal to the club. He achieved great things."
Van Gaal helped shape Schweinsteiger into one of the world's best midfielders during his time at Bayern and feels he will help United progress.
United have also been able to tempt Schweinsteiger with an increase on his Bayern salary and he had a year left on his deal at the Allianz Arena.
The 30-year-old is not the only player on his way to Old Trafford. Louis van Gaal yesterday confirmed that Matteo Darmian is set to join the Red Devils
When asked about Darmian, United boss Van Gaal said: "I have read that in the papers. That is true."
Van Gaal also confirmed the Italy right-back will have a medical this weekend and he is expected to join United when they jet off on their USA tour on Monday.
Darmian, 25, is joining for an initial £12.7million, rising to £14.4million.
