President Muhammadu Buhari and his Vice, Yemi Osinbajo today announced that they will only be taking 50% of their approved salary by the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC).

President Buhari’s current annual remuneration as approved by RMAFC is N14,058,820.00, but now he will be earning N7m per year.

According to the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu, he said that President Buhari, by his action, is sending a clear message to Nigerians on the need to make sacrifices for the nation.

However this new development has attracted a lot of reactions from Nigerians all around.

Matthew Ejiko: “Buhari, Osibanjo slash salaries by 50 per cent. Matthew Ejiko is unimpessed. We want to see what you”ll do with the mandate the people of Nigeria have given you. The mandate is not from the north.”

Fidelis Ojumah: “Salary to presidency has never been the case. Look if u want to show ur good leadership, forfeit ur travel allowances and leave on ur salaries. How much is the salary? The real case is allowances.”
