A member of National Assembly, Mr.
Ajibola Famurewa, has cautioned the
Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP)
against using its resources to finance
political violence in Osun State over
unpaid salaries.
Famurewa, representing Ilesa- East/
Ilesa-West/Atakumosa East/
Atakumosa-West, in the Federal
House of Representatives, accused
the opposition for using the delay in
the payment of workers’ salaries to
foment trouble.
He noted that financing political
violence and agitation was
undemocratic, adding that “it was
clear that the PDP could not be a
credible and violent-free opposition,
going by the day-to-day plan by its
leaders to destabilise the state, using
the unpaid salaries of the workers as
an excuse.
Famurewa, who made the remarks
while reacting to disruption of a
peaceful rally, organised by a
pressure group, the Osun Progressive
Left, to campaign against the
impeachment call, on Governor Rauf
Aregbesola, by hoodlums allegedly
hired by PDP, urged the leaders of the
party to learn how to be a good
opposition that would put the
government on its toes, through
constructive criticism – and not
violence.
Famurewa charged the PDP to stop
wasting its resources on funding
political, saying that it was high time
the party realised that it was no
longer popular in the state.
“The PDP is going gaga and I must
ask what they stand to gain by
fomenting trouble in the state. It
should be clear to them by now that
the people of the state have rejected
them; the court has also rejected
them. So, they have nothing to hold
on to.
“I do not expect the PDP to organise
a rowdy rally against Aregbesola on
the non-payment of salary, when the
Federal government has released
fund for the bailout; and when the
workers and people of the state are
still in support of Aregbesola,” he
said.
Famurewa called on all the security
agencies in the state to rise up to the
growing plan of the PDP to foment
trouble, because of the inability of the
state government to pay workers’
salaries.
He said: “We are now in the era of
positive change in Nigeria where the
rule of law and people’s rights are
highly respected. We hope this ugly
incident does not happen again from
the opposition. They should learn the
peaceful way to express their feelings
not through violent means or
anarchy.
“We appeal to the law enforcement
agencies to always be vigilant and
apprehend those miscreants, who
disrupted peaceful assembly of the
people, who were in support of
Aregbesola.
Also, the Executive Secretary of
Olorunda Local Government in the
State of Osun, Hakeem Okunade
(Samanja) has condemned the recent
action of opposition party, which
disguised under the banner of
“Coalition of Civil Societies for
Emancipation of Osun State” to
disrupt peace and business activities
of the people of Osogbo, last
Tuesday.
According to the council boss, the
protest was a clear attempt by
opposition party to cause mayhem
and plunge the entire state into chaos
as the labour unions had earlier
dissociated themselves the anti-
Aregbesola campaign, in a prelude
statement released by the State
chairman of the Nigerian Laboyur
Congress (NLC).
He advised PDP to invest their time
and energy on workable mechanism
that would appease God for their sins
against Nigerians and humanity.

I think these people are useless and heartless. Pensioners are owed 7 months and you are saying they are been instigated to stage a protest? I will pray my usual prayer that those that are involved in the present travails of the workers and pensioners may they also experience the agonies that the workers are passing through. Amen
