The former governor of Jigawa state, Sule Lamido, and his sons, have been transferred from Kano prison to Kuje prison in Abuja, Premium Times reports. According to a prison official who spoke to the media outfit, the former governor and his sons were taken away from the prison at about 10am on Monday, July 13, 2015. He said the former governor and his sons were moved into the Abuja prison at about 4pm on Monday. The ex-governor, who is facing corruption charges, could have been transported to Abuja by road as there was no sign they were to travel by air, the source disclosed. Another source said some of the former governor’s aides had moved to Abuja in preparations for a possible bail hearing. However, Effiong Effiong, Lamido’s counsel, succeeded in having a vacation judge assigned to hear the case in Abuja. Wilson Uwujaren, spokesperson for the EFCC, however told Premium Times that he did not have the information about the transfer. It was gathered that several people trooped to the Kano prison waiting to see Lamido unaware of his transfer. On Wednesday, July, 9, 2015, a federal judge ordered ex-governor Lamido and his sons be detained in Kano prison till September 28, 2015, when their bail applications would be heard. Shortly after he was remanded in prison custody together with his sons over money laundering allegations, Lamido expressed shock over the court’s decision. Lamido who is in the prison with two of his sons; Aminu and Mustapha, claimed that his case with the anti-corruption body was politically motivated.
