Lagos - Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, has appealed to for adequate funding, partnership and collaboration of the global community to combat terrorism, extremism and insurgency. He asked the international community to develop a viable mechanism to deal with the scourge of terrorism as it addresses all aspects of human security for sustainable development. Osinbajo, in a presentation made available to CAJ News, said the phenomenon of global terrorism constituted a potent threat to peace, stability and economic development of countries worldwide. “We must take parallel action to intensify efforts towards blocking all sources of funding for terrorist activities,” he said at the ongoing International Conference on Financing for Development held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. While the attacks have been commonplace in Borno State, Kaduna and Plateau States have recently suffered such attacks. More than 13 000 people have been killed and an estimated 2 million displaced as a result of such attacks. Meanwhile, Osinabajo called for support to Africa in repatriating illicit funds finding their way into the continent. “This conference (in Ethiopia) must come up with a mechanism for dismantling safe havens and the return of stolen funds and assets to the countries of origin as mandated in the United Nations Conventions Against Corruption and Transnational Organised Crime.” source:CAJ news
