Kaduna State governor Mallam Nasir El-Rufai has reiterated that he has not backed down on his earlier threat to sue the Union Newspaper for publishing false report against him. A social media activist and public commentator Paul Utho who asked about the matter on twitter got a reply from the former FCT minister that the case will come up after Ramadan in Kaduna.

The Union Newspaper had published a report with a claim that the state governor declared an asset of 90bn including 40 choice mansions in Abuja in his asset declaration form, sent to the Code of Conduct Bureau. El-rufai had refuted the report and threatened to sue the newspaper but the paper insisted that they stood by their story.

Many have asked, will the governor will file a suit against the paper. Some activists believed El-Rufai would have shamed his detractors by making public his asset instead of threatening to sue the paper, which has been the escapist strategy of Nigerian politicians when they are caught in a controversy. More often than not, they end up not keeping to their threat.
