If all the don't are observed in the cv, what then will be in the cv. it is a copy and paste work and do not believe it came from OP, you succeeded in scaring 95% of job applicants that are still struggling to write a simple and clear cv. i have rewritten alot cv of my guys whose cv is nothing to write home about and whenever i send back their cv to them, onr thing stand out that the formal was rubbish.

1. They do not want to see your duties listed= it is not true.

you should list the duties/responsibities of your job title with at list 6 strong bullet point that contains active words that makes it look as if your inchange of the job.

2. They do not want to see your life history= i have not even seen a cv that have ones life history. no body will be stupid to do that.

3.They do not want to see vague objective statements. = Yes and it should come after your name (the name should be at the top of the cv in bold character). it shuld b as describe by the poster.

4. They do not want to see a line about references.. please do not repeat this again. this seems to be one of the biggest deception on job advice in this forum.

let your reference be latitudinal(vertical) and not the old longitudinal form(vertical) in other to serve space and also make sure your referee knows you personally and not think to much to remember who you are. the most important thing about referee is the phone No. and Email address and not the name.

eg: SEE UPLOAD
Referee
Dr. Sony buhari Engr. Patrict Atiku Commissioner of transport, Rivers State Chief Store Keeper
# 80 aso Rock Street, D. Line Sokoto. NAOC OB/ OB
E mail: On Request E mail: On request
Mobile No: On Request Mobile:On Request

Use On Request when you have got enough job experience but if your a young graduate please include the phone No. and Email address of your ref.

5. They do not want to see your work email address= it is not true.
it is your sole responsibility to use any email address that you want (work or office), the company will contact you if your are qualify but avoid using email name that sounds childish or use the combination of your name to create your email address. however, it is not advicable for you to use your company email address because the company monitors the mail that comes in and goes out from it so you can be tract and send packing even before you attend the aptitude test.

6. They do not want to see unexplained gaps in your resume.= this is true(that is many company standared). You may likely be asked to explain the gap during interview. make sure you add new skills/training(inline with your profession or other wise) to your cv every 6 months if your can in the case where your still looking for job but considering the current hard economy of the country, i doubt how many can achieve that. Prayer is the key.

7. They do not want to see your skills that everyone else has.= THIS POINT IS NOT NECCESSARY. it is totally out of point. if two people studied accounting and have worked for a tleast 2 years, wouldn't there cv have almost similar of job responsibilities depending on their exposure on the job.

8. They do not want to see a messy and untidy resume..:- TRUE. make sure your spellings are correct, your font are uniform, your grammar is correct(90% correct at least). (see upload on heading)

9. They do not want to see your photo or other pictures.= Do not try it.

10. They do not want to see irrelevant personal details= YES. repetition of don't

11. They do not want to see fancy fonts or creative formats.= which tricking system again na. for job application way person never get?.
make such your cv is save in MS word 2003-2007 so that any edition can open it. if there is any course to use font, make it simple.

12. They do not want to see empty and poorly managed social profiles.:= true. mind what you past in your facebook wall and your comments. please do not synchronize your facebook with your linkedin profile together. www.linkedin.com is strictly professional, keet it professional.

13. They do not want to see resumes written in the first person= It does not matter, what matters is that you should use active word that make you involve in your duty than being an observer.

15. they do not want to see just a list of bullet points.= the points you make is unnecessary as sure it is not part of don't.

16. They do not want to see lies or exaggerated claims.-: make sure you can defend whatever point(lie or true) you are including in your cv.

17. They do not want to see a one-size-fits-all resume.:=TRUE. make sure your responsibilities match the job that you are applying for and save that particular cv so that you will use it the case that you are called. ie your cv changes according to application but defend whatever is in there.

18. They do not want to see cover letters= FALSE. a cover letter is a summery of yourself. it is a written form of the question '' TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF". whenever you are send a cv to an email address, please paste your cover letter inside the mail then use whatever they want you to use as the subject of the letter. if you can not answer the question '' TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF". you have to go to www.youtube.com to watch video on how to answer the question. if a company site ask you to add a cover, make sure it is added(either you paste it or upload a word ducument of it).

19. They do not want to see your cool Word Header feature.= same as point 11. number you cv either at the top or at the bottom right(preferably).

20. They do not want to see positions dating back more than 15 years.=FALSE. If it is part of your job experience, it is allowed but do not add experience that will affect your current job application. do not add banking experience in an engineering job but if the bank experience is about I.T section then add it.

21. As a young graduate make sure you limit your cv to two pages alone. it increases as you gain experience in the job or attend trainings.

There's a difference between cv and resume, we always seem to confuse them. Cvs are used in Africa while resumes are used in the US, Canada...

Always note what the company asks for. If they ask for cv, you're free to write me than two pages unless you are a fresh graduate.

Cvs are always constant and can be used fur every jobs, whereas resumes shouldn't be me than 2-4 pages. Resumes should be changed based in the job you're applying for.

Simply put, Cvs are basically your job experiences, education and background in full while resumes are a summary of your cv for a particular job.

And one thing, always use Interests or Extracurricular Activities instead of hobbies please.
