The plot to remove Ike Ekweremadu as the Deputy Senate President by the leadership of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has continued to take diverse dimensions as a S/East chieftain of the party Lorencia Uzoamaka Onyema has described Ekweremadu as a “meddlesome interloper” who is guilty of “bloody treachery.”

Onyema made this known during an interview on AIT’s Focus Nigeria where she blasted Ekweremadu for daring to contest for the position of the Deputy Senate President and demanded he tenders his resignation.

“The Deputy Senate President is not compensation to the S/East because he is one spare tire and a meddlesome interloper who ab initio should not be there.
“I cannot accept the fact that somebody who is not our party member should come and take such a juicy position.

“If there was any man in the Senate that should show such affront and bloody treachery to claim for the deputy senate president should have been David mark, but he didn’t.”

Chief John Oyegun, the national chairman of the APC had previously called for Ekweremadu’s resignation stating that the APC would be “very, very glad” if he resigns.

“If he wants to resign, we would be very very glad, but for now, as at today, our mission is to get the senate settled to get them at work. We are in charge; we are in control,” he said at the time.
Senators of the Unity forum who are loyal to Senator Ahmad Lawan, the preferred APC candidate for the Senate Presidency, had insisted that Ekweremadu’s resignation was one of the conditions that would make the faction to recognize Senator Bukola Saraki as Senate President.

Following the leadership struggle between Saraki and Lawan, Onyema believes that her zone merited the position of the Senate President but regretted the defeat of all the APC senatorial candidates who lost during the elections.
