hello, pls I'm trying to configure my desktop so i can connect to my spectranet, the challenge is that I have linux installed, and I don't have wifi on the desktop, so i have to connect via USB, but i can't seem to do the configuration.

can anyone help me with that?

use lsusb to check for the modem's id and current mode, you should see something like this (Huawei E353/E3131)

Bus 001 Device 002: ID 8087:0024 Intel Corp. Integrated Rate Matching Hub
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
Bus 004 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0003 Linux Foundation 3.0 root hub
Bus 003 Device 002: ID 05c8:036e Cheng Uei Precision Industry Co., Ltd (Foxlink) Webcam
Bus 003 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub

in my case it's on Bus 001 with an id of 12d1 and the current mode is 1f01

use usb_modeswitch run this command from the terminal

sudo usb_modeswitch -v 12d1 -p 1f01 -M '55534243123456780000000000000011062000000101000100000000000000'

if you're not using a distro that uses sudo just switch to the root account with su - and run

usb_modeswitch -v 12d1 -p 14db -V 12d1 -P 1442 -M "55534243123456780000000000000011062000000100000000000000000000"


yours might be different depending on the model, so just change replace the numbers with the one on your modem
