Ekiti state police have arrested a pastor, Babatunde Balogun, and twelve others for alleged involvement in a series of kidnappings in the state.

Pastor Balogun, who was paraded together with his acquaintances in Ado Ekiti on Monday before Governor Ayodele Fayose, allegedly has been providing “spiritual counselling” to the suspected kidnappers and gaining benefits from the proceeds from the abductions.

According to the state director of state security service, Duke Fubara, one of the suspects, Gbenga David (a.k.a Oruma) was accosted by officials of the SSS in Osun state and was shot while making efforts to escape the scene.

After the suspect has been treated at an undisclosed hospital, he disclosed the names of alleged kidnappers.
Reportedly, their arrests were made possible by the synergy between the SSS and the police.

The police also declared wanted four other persons – Kenneth Ozoh, Jonathan Ozoh, Kehinde Adeleye and Sunday Ogunleye – suspected to have masterminded the kidnap of a lecturer of the Obafemi Awolowo University in Ile-Ife, Femi Omisore, and a Catholic priest, Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Akingbade.

Police commissioner Etop James said the anti-kidnapping squad of the command was working round the clock to rid the state of kidnapping.
