Otti ‘s False Alarm is a Criminal Offense

The Chief Press Secretary to the Abia State governor, Mr. Godwin Adindu, has said that the false assassination claim made last weekend in Umuahia by the guber candidate of the All Peoples’ Grand Allaince (APGA), Mr. Alex Otti, amounts to raising false alarm which is a criminal offence.
Adindu said the only intention of Mr. Otti in the act was to deceive the general public and the security agencies, stressing that somebody of his status should not condescend as low as telling blatant lies all in a bid to score cheap points.
While wondering why Otti should address the press conference in Umuahia instead of Abuja where the incident allegedly took place, Adindu said Otti’s main aim was to give the picture that somebody from the state was after his life and that there was insecurity in Abia.
The CPS said he is aware that raising false alarm is a criminal offence in the penal code and wondered why the Police have not invited Otti for questioning.
He advised the APGA leader to have faith and confidence in the judiciary and the electoral tribunal which are handling his petition and stop indulging in acts that are capable of causing disaffection in the Abia body polity.
Adindu further enjoined the APGA leader to approach life with temperance and not to be so desperate in his quest for power, adding that such spirit of desperation will only lead him into committing acts that will tarnish his image at the end of the day.
Otti had, last Friday, in Umuahia addressed a press conference where he alleged that his private guest house in Abuja was attacked and a policeman attached to the guest house killed by unknown gunmen. He said it was a clear case of assassination attempt against his life but, “the God I serve did not allow them”
He disclosed that the attackers scaled the back fence of his house around 2am and killed a policeman on duty in the premises during the raid.
But the Abia State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Udevioutu Onyeke when contacted, had said Otti was not the primary target of the attack according to the information available to him from the Force Headquarters, though the neighbourhood where Otti’s house was located at Maitama area of Abuja was attacked by robbers.
Later, the Force Public Relations Officer Mr. Emma Ojukwu, revealed that the incident did not exactly take place at Otti’s guest house neither was the policeman of the Special Protection Unit killed in his residence. The FPPRO confirmed that the policeman was killed in the building housing NESTOIL, which is a totally different compound from where Otti’s guest house is located
Reacting, Adindu said Mr. Otti purposely raised the false alarm to whip up sentiments.

Signed:
Godwin Adindu
Chief Press Secretary to the Governor.
