One week after he was released from detention by the Department of State Services, Gordon Obua, the Chief Security Officer to former President Goodluck Jonathan has been rushed to the National Hospital, Abuja for medical care.

It was learnt on Wednesday that the former President’s CSO was admitted for medical attention over his failing health.

A source said, “Obua’s health has deteriorated and he has been taken to the hospital for medical attention. It seems his detention by the DSS has affected his health badly.”

Obua, who suffers from diabetes and hypertension, took ill during the six days he was in the custody of his employers where he was quizzed over security vote spending and alleged money laundering.

The DSS operative was rushed to the hospital where he was treated and discharged.

But following reports that he might have died in custody, the DSS presented him before journalists at its headquarters in Abuja on July 22, 2015, where he addressed newsmen for about three minutes.

Obua had told journalists that he was alive and healthy, adding that the DSS management treated him well.

The former CSO was later released in the night to his family, which had voiced concern over his whereabouts and well being.

The DSS could not be reached for comments on Wednesday over the health of the operative as it has yet to appoint a spokesperson.

The spokesperson for the National Hospital, Dr. Tayo Haastrup, did not respond to calls and a text message that was sent to him had not been responded to as of press time.
