As the economy continues to grapple with the adverse effects of an absent tacit policy response from President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration, most financial analysts have described his two month old administration as an indication of his plans to become the sole administrator of the Nigerian economy.

Dr Katch Ononuju, an Abuja based erudite economist, in an exclusive interview with POST NIGERIA expressed suspicion over Buhari’s continuous neglect of economic matters since he took over power on May 29th 2015, describing it as a form of Totalitarianism.

He added that the past two months of the current administration have exposed poor economic skills and therefore advised that he (Buhari) immediately constitutes his economic team before leading the economy into recession.

“We have a situation where we haven’t had a Government for two months because there is no economic direction.
“Buhari is now the sole operator of the economy. He has been running the economy without giving any economic direction.”

Even when an economy is at its peak of progress, it becomes necessary to have an economic direction talk more of a time when Nigeria is in a critical situation of managing dwindling revenues.

Buhari seems unaware of this, expressing a lack of interest in marshalling out an economic blueprint to better the lot of the ordinary Nigerian.

Ononuju who has advocated for the removal of fuel subsidy had earlier doubted Buhari understands the economy when he approved a bailout for indebted States without confining it to strict conditionality of fiscal responsibility.

He said this was a sign of inconsistency bearing in mind his earlier claim of an empty treasury.
