We've 'evolved' to cope
with walking and texting
Humans have evolved a "protective shuffle" to
cope with walking and texting, according to a
study by the A&M University in Texas.
Professor Conrad Earnest, who led the study, said
the shuffle looks like a "normal walk" with a
shortened stride and a tendency to raise the foot
a little higher when going up curbs or steps.
People texting on the move also slow their pace
and tend to "deviate" from their course "a bit
more" than when walking normally, he said.
The inattentiveness of texting and walking has
been described as "unintentional blindness",
something considered so dangerous that 'texting
lanes' have been introduced in Belgium. Link:www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p02ykmx2 |
