1) Spring Clean Your Health

Spring cleaning isn't just about organizing your home from top-to-bottom — it's also a great time to take stock of your health from head-to-toe, ditch any bad habits and make positive changes to improve your well being. Take the first step toward a fresh start. Here are 13 ways to give your body and mind a total tune-up.

2) Start a New Exercise Routine

With the warmer weather and longer days, springtime is the perfect time to get active. Aim for five 30-minute workout sessions each week. And remember, exercise doesn't have to happen in a gym. Do any activity you enjoy — take a walk in the fresh air with coworkers on your lunch break, go for a bike ride with your kids, or play tennis with friends

3) Revamp Your Diet

Take advantage of the variety of fresh fruits and veggies available during the spring months. Choose produce and other wholesome foods — whole grains, lean sources of protein, and low-fat dairy products — over processed foods that tend to be high in fat, sodium and sugar. (Of course, it's OK to indulge in the occasional ice cream cone on a warm spring day!)

4) Up the H20

Staying well-hydrated will keep you energized and help ward off fatigue. Replace soda, sports drinks and other sweet beverages with good old-fashioned H2O. If water is too bland for your taste, add slices of fresh lime, lemon or cucumber or try unsweetened sparkling water

5) Cut Down on Alcohol

Next time you join your friends at happy hour, remember to sip slowly. Excessive drinking has been associated with liver and pancreatic damage, high blood pressure and certain types of cancer. Women should limit themselves to one drink per day, and men can have up to two alcoholic beverages each day.

6) Butt Out

If you're still smoking, it's time to kick the habit to the curb. You'll start to feel better right away — after 12 hours smoke-free, the carbon monoxide levels in your blood drop back to normal; after a few months, your lung capacity and cirulation improve; and after a year, your risk of cardiovascular disease drops by 50 percent. You don't have to go cold turkey. Do some research on the best ways to quit smoking, and then ask your doctor for help devising a plan you're

7) Check In for a Check Up

Getting regular checkups, screening tests and vaccinations can help keep you healthy. During well-visits, your doctor may be able to spot certain medical conditions at their earliest stages, when they're more likely to respond to treatment. Your doctor will let you know how often you need to be checked for high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, breast cancer and other diseases.

cool Care for Your Smile
Regular brushing and flossing doesn't just keep your pearly whites looking their best — having good oral health also cuts your risk of heart disease and other medical problems. Up your oral hygiene game by brushing your teeth twice a day, flossing once each day, replacing your toothbrush every three to four months and visiting your dentist for cleanings as often as directed.

9) Shade Yourself From the Sun

Make it a goal to stay sunburn-free this spring! Protecting yourself from the sun's rays will keep your skin looking flawless and will also lower your chances of developing skin cancer. If you can, avoid direct sunlight between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., when the sun's rays are at their peak. If you're outside, make sure to use a sunscreen with SPF 15 or higher that protects against UVA and UVB rays. And don't forget sunglasses and a hat for extra protection!

10) Log Enough Shut-Eye

Shoot for seven to nine hours of sleep each night. Getting too little — or too much — sleep is linked with memory problems, accidents and an increased risk for dangerous illnesses, like heart disease. Try to hit the sheets and wake up at set times each day, even on the weekends. Catch more Zzzz's with these secrets to a better night's sleep.

11) Reduce Stress

High stress levels can contribute to heart disease, stomach problems, depression, obesity and more. You may not be able to put life on hold to rejuvenate, but you can incorporate relaxation techniques like deep breathing, exercise or sharing your feelings with friends and family into your daily routine. Get started with these simple stress-busters.

12) Renew Relationships

Research has shown the importance of having good, strong relationships to your overall health and happiness. Spend the day with people you love, schedule regular coffee dates to catch up with friends and pick up the phone to check in with family often.

13) Set Aside Time for You

Between long hours at the office and caring for children, many people forget to make time for themselves. To avoid burning out, try to keep a healthy work-life balance and do activities you enjoy once in awhile. Go ahead and get a massage or play a round of golf — the break from the grind will leave you refreshed and ready to tackle your responsibilities.

14) Stay Positive

People who have bright outlooks on life generally have fewer health problems and live longer than pessimists. Try to see the glass half-full. Jot down a list of things that make you happy and review it each day, or make an effort to recognize what you have to be grateful for.
