Armadillo Gets Shot, Bounces Bullet Right Back Into His Shooter's Head

A Texas man got his karmic comeuppance on Thursday when he tried to shoot an innocent armadillo … and wound up shooting himself by accident.

The shooting happened around 3 a.m. off the side of the highway. The man aimed at the armadillo, but the bullet ricocheted off the animal's hard shell and hit him in the head. He was hospitalized and treated for minor injuries — there's no word on the condition of the armadillo.

The man told authorities that he "felt compelled to shoot at the armadillo" after seeing him on the road, the Houston Chronicle reports. This isn't the first time someone has tried to shoot an an armadillo and gotten shell shock — back in April, a man shot at an armadillo but the bullet bounced off the animal's shell and hit the man's mother-in-law instead.

Armadillos are pretty cool animals — their name literally translates to "little armored one." They're actually closely related to sloths, but armadillos are unique as the only mammals with bony plates covering their bodies.

This story just goes to show: Shooting an innocent animal can come back to bite you in all sorts of ways.
