These are troubling times for Nigeria’s
immediate past National Security Adviser,
Col. Sambo Dasuki (rtd) as a large scale
investigation into the financial dealings
during his time as NSA has commenced.
The residence of Dasuki in the Asokoro
district of Abuja was under siege by
operatives of the DSS last two week for
almost 48 hours.
Reports claimed huge sums of cash in
Nigerian and foreign currency were found
when his residence in Abuja and Sokoto were
ransacked by DSS operatives
A highly placed government official, who
declined being identified, told The Cable that
sensitive documents, including cheques and
bank transactions, were seized in Dasuki’s
houses.
However, the DSS, is yet to reveal its findings
its findings in Dasuki’s houses as the security
agency only said it found “incriminating
evidence” against Sambo while searching his
properties.
There were also allegations of “treasonable
felony” against the Sokoto-born prince, even
as Dasuki was quick to rebuff the claims of
the DSS, claiming his travails were politically
motivated.
Ekiti state governor, Ayo Fayose, had aslo
described Dasuki’s arrest as a sign of
dictatorship. The security operatives
reportedly took with them $40,000, three
automatic rifles and Dasuki’s travel
documents before they vacated his residence.
The source did not give a breakdown of the
cash reportedly recovered but said the
biggest find so far is in the paper trail “which
is yielding significant leads”.
Recall that after ending the siege at Dasuki’s
residence, some operatives of the DSS moved
to his friend’s home, Bello Fadipe.
The Peoples Democratic Party had also
criticised the invasion and occupation of
Dasuki’s residence accusing President
Muhammadu Buhari of threatening aides of
former president Goodluck Jonathan.
