Happy birthday, President Obama! The leader of the United States of America — and Michelle Obama’s husband — turns 54 today, August 4. Let’s help him celebrate an incredible year!

President Barack Obama has had a historic year, and as he moves into his last year of the presidency, things don’t look like they’re slowing down at all! We bet being president means you get to celebrate your 54th birthday in style — and that President Obama is going to have the best time with Michelle, Sasha, Malia — and Joe Biden! — on August 4!

Even if you don’t agree with his politics, you have to admit that President Obama is having the best year of his presidency thus far! He’s had win after win when it comes to policy and just being an awesome guy, and that definitely makes celebrating his big day that much sweeter.

Have you ever heard of a president cool enough to be interviewed on YouTube? Obama did just that in January 2015, when he sat down with three YouTube stars to let the people of the Internet hear everything they wanted to know. He probably didn’t expect to be interviewed by a spunky girl with bright green lipstick, but that’s what happens in politics, right?

While President Obama himself did not grant the ruling to legalize same-sex marriage throughout the United States, the impact of the decision will be remembered in his presidency — especially through his vigorous support of its legalization! He made a beautiful speech, stating that America was now truly the “Land of the Free.” Tears.

It wasn’t the only time that he made us cry this past year. During the funeral for slain Rev. Clementa Pinckney, who was murdered in June 2015 during the massacre at Charleston’s Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church, President Obama moved the nation with a phenomenal speech — and gorgeous rendition of “Amazing Grace.” It was vulnerable moment to behold, especially for a politician of his stature. What a beautiful thing to see.

In another step forward for his presidential legacy, Obama announced in July 2015 that he would be commuting the prison sentences of 46 non-violent drug offenders. He felt their punishments didn’t fit their crimes; it’s a move that will forever change our criminal justice system.
