Barely days after the Coalition Against Corrupt Leaders, CACOL, urged President Muhammadu Buhari not to consider Babatunde Fashola, Lagos Governor for a ministerial appointment, a damning revelation has shown that in 2014 he approved the whooping sum of N78 million for the upgrade of his personal website.

This is according to a document published by the State’s Public Procurement Agency, PPA.

The report also confirmed that the contract was awarded to a company named “Info Access Plus Limited” whose responsibility was to upgrade Fashola’s personal website (tundefashola.com)

This alleged contract leaves a huge dent on Buhari’s close associate’s reputation with several whispers painting him as an odds on bet for a ministerial slot.

Fashola is already awash with controversy over a N500bn debt left behind for his successor, an allegation which the CACOL has insisted should be investigated. The group has also insisted that until these numerous issues are settled, Buhari should not consider appointing Fashola as a Minister.

“Feelers have it that his name is prominent on the list of the president’s nominees for key offices in your administration.

“It is gratifying that you have promised at various fora that your appointments would be purely based on merit and that tested technocrats, with impeccable records, would be given their rightful places in your administration, as a way of ensuring good governance to the people of Nigeria.

“It is against this background that our organisation is appealing to you to please take the pains to dig deep into Mr. Babatunde Fashola’s record of performance as well as that of financial propriety on the part of his government while in office.”

Following these revelations, another civic technology organization, BudgiT also called for serious investigations to be made into Fashola’s finances and expenditure, raising questions about fraudulent activities such as spending N330 Million on the residence of his Deputy Governor, Sarah Sosan.

BudgiT has also demanded that details of the contracts and should be made public

Excess propaganda is counter productive.

Even within a party, there is bound to be divergent views.

You don't blackmail a party man
