The Rampant Request For Bribe In Nigeria Is Shocking-polish Minister by Nobody: 5:20pm On Aug 08, 2015
John Abraham Godson -a Polish politician, a
university teacher and a former Charismatic
minister has shared his experience of his recent
visit to Nigeria….He shared the experience on his
social media account….Read below;

I have just concluded a 3 week visit to Nigeria and I
feel I should give a short summary of some of the
things that struck me positively and negatively.

Positively:
1. Meeting with Governor Rochas Okorocha was
very inspiring. Although it was just a short courtesy
visit, I was inspired at his action oriented positive
responses. That’s a governor to watch and Imo is a
state to watch as an investment destination.

2. Meeting with Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia
state was very good and I am so grateful for his
hospitality in accommodating me at the State
government house. I am also encouraged by his
investment team led by the his special adviser on
investment Mr Austin Ufomba who are working
tirelessly to put the state back on the growth track.
With such calibre of people, there is hope for
positive change.

3. Abuja surprises me positively each time I visit it.
As a city, It is well planned and organized. And
generally it is encouraging to see new houses being
built- not only in Abuja.

Negatively
1. The Enugu – Port Harcourt express road is a
nightmare and should be given priority. Generally
the roads in the South East are in extremely bad
shape. Good road networks help business. Bad
road networks choke business. More priority
should be given developing and maintaining the
road networks in Nigeria.

2. I was shocked at the rampant nature of bribe
request. Let me give two instances. In one of the
government offices, one of the directors was
asking when he will taste the Polish dollars. And
because that was not forth coming, he blocked a
very important meeting. That was really very
appalling. The second situation took place at the
Port Harcourt airport. One of the immigration
officers requested for me to give them something.
I refused and instead gave them a short lecture on
behaving in an honorable way as representatives
of the government and authority of Nigeria. I sat
opposite them while I waited for my flight. To my
dismay that did not stop them from extorting
money from passengers. That is really shameful.
3. I still can’t get used to the lack of respect for
time (aka “African time”). How frustrating to
arrange meetings with people and they turn up
late or some even don’t show up. In my opinion,
this is the zenith of irresponsibility. You are worth
your word. Tell me how you keep time and I will
show you how responsible you are.

I have lived abroad for 22 years and each time I
visit Nigeria I see many positive changes have
taken place. This is to be appreciated. But I also
see many things that need to be changed. And I
believe that if Nigerians are determined and
focused, these changes can be made.

May I conclude by thanking everyone that made
my stay a great one especially – Enyi and Chinma
Harbor, Stanley Onwuha, Marcel and Funmi
Njoku, Hon. Uchechukwu Onyagucha, Governor
Okezie Ikpeazu and of course my parents. Thank
you very much and may God bless you. I can’t wait
to be able to visit again.
