Former Head  of State,  Gen. Abdulsalam Abubakar (rtd) Monday led a delegation of the  National Peace Committee to the National Assembly.  The committee was responsible for the historic Abuja Accord  which brought the presidential candidates  of the 2015 elections  to the round table  and stemmed the tide of violence.
Abubakar and his team   met  with the President of the Senate, DR BUKOLA SARAKI  behind closed doors for over two hours. Members of the media were, however, not allowed to cover the meeting as they were told that it was an informal and strictly private visit, which did not require press coverage.
At the end of the meeting, the team also refused to talk to the press and walked away.
Some of the members of the  National Peace Committee, who attended the meeting include  the  Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Sokoto, Bishop Matthew Kukah,  the Catholic ArcbBishop  of Abuja,  Cardinal John Onaiyekan, the Sultan of Sokoto,  His  Eminence  Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar IV , Pastor Oritsejiafor and Senator Ben Obi, amongst others.
The delegation,  which was also  billed to meet with the Speaker of the House, Hon. Yakubu Dogara, could not be received at the lower chamber of the parliament as Dogara was said to have gone to the Presidential Villa for a crucial meeting
