NASS Will Create Laws To Enable Development Of Mineral Resources – Senator by khalifjgusau(m): 6:39pm On Aug 18, 2015
Senator representing Zamfara North Senatorial District of Zamfara State, Tijjani Yahaya Kaura has disclosed that the National Assembly would put in place enabling legal instrument that would facilitate diversification of Nigerian economy into development of solid minerals and agriculture other than oil that is the case now.

In an interview with News men In his office at the National Assembly, the Senator disclosed that the processes have already been captured in the report of Legislative agenda of the 8th Assembly that was submitted to the Committee of the whole in readiness for consideration.

“I come from Zamfara State which is a young state having been created in 1996, but it is endowed with mineral resources and if properly harnessed and utilised, can take care of the entire nation,” he said.

The Senator expressed optimism that the Buhari led administration would make good his promises of diversifying the economy, by delving into agriculture and other solid minerals development, noting that it is clear to everyone around the world that President Buhari is firm in his words and ”this has earned him respect even outside the country and by so doing, young graduates will be engaged.

“As at today, this is the only way the number of graduates roaming on the streets can be reduced and particularly, the states where these resources are found stand to benefit immensely.” Kaura said.

He said it was the first time a sitting government would be committed to probing immediate past administration so that an example would be set to guide the future, particularly now that he is yet to appoint his Ministers. He said when those Ministers are eventually appointed, they would be in the same frame of mind working with Mr President.

Said he: “There has never been a government that comes out boldly to probe past corrupt leaders the way President Buhari is doing and this will remain an example for the future; and when he appoints his Ministers, they will be in the same frame of mind,” he noted.

Decrying the incessant security challenges in Zamfara State, he disclosed that when he was Secretary to Zamfara State, a Committee headed by an Islamic Scholar, Sheik Strete was put in place to reconcile farmers with Fulani Cattle rearers.

According to him, it was later discovered that the Fulani Cattle rustlers actually came from outside Zamfara State to steal cattle and in the process killed and maimed people which the state and federal security agents tried to curtail.
