Sorry, who is to blame? Most of Lagos roads are federal government roads. Forget about roads only, is it not the federal government's role to provide infrastructure for all regions of the country?

Was it not GEJ's government that refused to fund the rail project in Lagos?

If FG is to "provide ALL" infrastructures, den, what is d work of the state government?

I blame FG, but state govt should also share in that blame, lagos is not the only state that is affected. I will not in anyways compare lagos nd anambra, nope, I will not, lagos is more populous, but, the whole of GEJ tenure, no single FG project was done n anambra. But state govt knew that they are the ones loosing out if it is not done, so they took it upon themselves to work on the roads and ask for refund later.

My point is, don't blame FG for all ur woes. State nd local govts were created for some reasons.

At least you have admitted that you are an igbo impostor using a Yoruba moniker, so that's a start. cheesy. Those 3 past governors you listed are Yorubas so that is all that matters to us Yorubas of this SW region -- unlike you Igbos who hate each others guts so much that Abia govt. fired fellow igbos from imo from their civil service. Besides, those 3 men are bonified Lagosians so what the fvck are you talking about?

Lagos is a Yoruba state, governed by Yorubas, situated in Yorubaland, the most progressive region in the entire country. It is to the credit of the Yorubas that other Nigerians from all ethnic groups find their region and Lagos in particular as a land of opportunity, just as Hispanics, indians, Irish, Italians, Africans are keen to migrate to NY, L.A, London, etc. Can the same be said about your SE region? Where poverty pursues your kinsmen to Lagos and the SW for survival?

Now, the likes of Joe igbokwe and the one commissioner spot in Fashola's gov't are appointed positions. Tinubu started the practice as a gesture of goodwill to the igbo community in Lagos and nothing more. Without Igbos, Yoruba governors will continue to emerge in Lagos as igbo voting strength is practically insignificant, as the last election demonstrated.

If the governor decides not to appoint any igboman or non-indigene into his cabinet nothing will happen. Aregbe also had Ondo indigenes in his cabinet so this practice is no biggie to us here in the SW.

The igbos aren't the only group that live in Lagos, an Urhobo man also won an election to represent his community here in Lagos at the Federal level so quit your noisemaking. But that's the problem with your stvpid lot. In your mind you are the only non-Yoruba in Lagos when in actual fact you all just the loudest. Lagos PDP,which is controlled 100% by Yorubas, gave the non-Yorubas that won election under that party the ticket to represent Lagos, so even those non-Yorubas owe that position to their Yoruba hosts.

Of the 64 or so elective seats in Lagos, only 4 went to non-Yorubas out of the PDP and Accord Party wins, of which one is an urhobo man and 3 igbos. So 4 out of 64 still gives Yorubas an overwhelming majority control of their state politically, not to mention again that even those non-Yoruba winners owe their tickets to the Yoruba Lagos PDP leadership.

History of Lagos StatePrior to the Portuguese name of Lagos being adopted, Lagos was originally called Eko, which stems from either Oko (Yoruba: "cassava farm"wink or Eko ("war camp"wink, by its Bini conquerors. History has it that the Oba of Bini sent various trade expeditions to Ghana where spices were traded and one of his traders complained about the way she was being treated by the Awori's. The Oba of Bini then sent a trade expedition by sea. Ironically, the leader of the expedition arrived in the evening at a time when the people who were predominantly fishermen were either wading into the water or getting into their boats to gather their catch. He declined to engage them further and returned to what is now called Benin City where he reported to the Oba of Bini that they were attacked. This prompted the Oba of Bini to constitute a war expedition led by Ado, a Bini Prince to go to Lagos and demand an explanation. This was over 650 years ago. However, on getting there, they were well received. The people were so enamored with Ado they asked him to stay and lead them. He agreed on the condition that they surrendered their sovereignty to the Oba of Bini to which they agreed. The Oba of Bini was told this and he gave his permission for the expedition to remain. The Oba of Bini later sent some of his chiefs including the Eletu Odibo, Obanikoro and others to assist Ado in the running of Eko. Till today, the Oba of Lagos is the head of all the Kings in Lagos State and his status is different from other Oba's most of whom were later given back their crowns and staff of office only within the last 40 years and have various classifications. Suffice it to state that those who got their crowns back were the original land owners. These were Olofin's children. Moreover, modern day Lagosians have so intermingled that no single tribe or people can claim it even though the predominant language is Yoruba. The present day Lagos state has a higher percent of this sub-group who allegedly migrated to the area from Isheri along the Ogun river.

History has it that the Awori were actually from Ife the cradle of Yorubaland. The Awori people are a peaceful people initially not taken to warfare. Due to war, those from the hinterlands, like the Ekiti ran towards Isheri which at that time had more than one Olofin (Alafin)who were heads of probably respective settlements about 1400AD. With the fleeing people from the hinterlands most of them scattered again to different places, some to Iro, to Otta, Ado, others to Ebute Metta i.e three landing places - Oyingbo, Iddo and Lagos Island (Eko). The Olofin that brought those who went to Ebute-Metta was Ogunfunminire later known as Agbodere. With the full commencement of the war about 2000 moved to the nearest island of Iddo, others to Otto Awori or Otto Ijanikin towards modern-day Badagry. Those from Ekiti Aramoko came to Ebute-Metta, Iddo and then Ijora. The Olofin was said to have 32 children. His own known children are Olumegbon, Aromire, Oloto, Oluwa, Oniru, Onisiwo, Onitoolo, and Elegushi. Ojora, Onikoyi and Mogiso were not his biological children. After the demise of Agbodere, the name Olofin became the name used to remember him while a title of Oloto was given to his seccessor. With one of his sons becoming the Oloto his other children parted ways to what is known as visible settlements in the present day Lagos. Aromire whose name means defeated the river or became the river's friend is likely to be the first to cross being said to have swam across the river. It is possible that his real name is not Aromire but due to the feat he became known as such.

Until the coming of the Bini's, Lagos's geographic boundary was what is known now as Lagos Mainland. Lagos Island, the seat of the Oba of Lagos then consisted of a pepper farm and fishing posts. No one lived there though. The name Eko was given to it by its first King Oba Ado during its early history, it also saw periods of rule by the Kingdom of Benin.[1] Eko was the land area now known as Lagos Island where the king's palace was built. The Palace is called Iga Idunganran which, translated means Palace built on the pepper farm. Oba Ado and the warriors from Benin as well as some of the indigenous people who sought safety settled down in the southern part of Eko called "Isale Eko", Isale literarily meaning bottom, but must have been used to indicate downtown (as in Downtown Lagos).

First of all, na only 3 igbos wey win election in Lagos, not 5 as your falsely claimed -- a total of 4 non-yorubas won seats under PDP, 1 Urhobo, 3 igbos. Secondly, their election wasn't a result of igbo votes alone but rather a protest vote by former APC supporters, combined with PDP supporters votes, including Yorubas and other non-indigenes, against APC imposition of unpopular candidates -- this happened in every single case of those non-Yoruba wins.

I repeat that igbo votes are insignificant in Lagos politics. Forget the hype coz its as fake as your moniker.

Enugu makes history, joins world’s 100 resilient cities

Enugu made history, Wednesday, as the only Nigerian city among 35 cities from across the globe invited to join the 100 Resilient Cities Network (100RC) pioneered by The Rockefeller Foundation, New York.

The announcement was made during The Rockefeller Foundation’s Urban Resilience Summit in Singapore. The other three African cities that made the list alongside the Coal City of Enugu are Kigali (Rwanda), Accra (Ghana) and Arusha (Tanzania).

The choice of Enugu was predicated on the transformation of the road network in the city under Sullivan Chime. This was in addition to numerous national and international recognitions that have been bestowed on Enugu state. The organizers of the network said that Enugu was chosen from nearly 350 applicants on the basis of its ability to “demonstrate a unique vision for resilience, a long-term commitment to cutting across levels of government and sectors of society, a special attention to the needs of the poor and vulnerable.”

The Foundation stressed that Enugu like other Network cities will serve as a model for other global cities that seek to build their own resilience.

This second wave of cities will join 32 cities that won last year’s 100 Resilient Cities Challenge, forming a growing network of urban centers around the world that are ready to respond to the social, economic and physical shocks and stresses that are a growing part of the 21st century.

Other renowned cities of the world invited to join the list in the 2014 edition include Athens, Barcelona, London, Paris, Boston, Chicago, Amman, Sydney and Singapore.

100-Resilient Cites was created by an initial $100 million commitment by the Rockefeller Foundation as part of their Centennial last year, recognizing the trends of urbanization and globalization that characterize this century.

I'm going to be honest, the infrastructure in Lagos is totally dilapidated, even in victoria island it is very outdated and needs to be revamped.

Only in Nigeria do you have open gutters next to pavements(that's if there is even any pavements).

APC really tried with Lagos especially Fashola, the only state that makes most of its revenue from tax collection. That would have taken some serious financial reforms.

But indeed Lagos is a mess and no-one can deny that.

PDP made more than enough money to carry out major infrastructure development on a national scale; especially under GEJ.

I have said it repeatedly on this forum. UNTIL WE GET RID OF OPEN GUTTERS AND GIVE EVERY STREET COVERED DRAINS AND PEDESTRIAN SIDEWALKS, NOBODY WILL TAKE US SERIOUSLY AS A NATION. IT'S UNHEARD OF IN THIS DAY AND AGE TO not HAVE THAT ON EVERY ROAD, AND ANY VISITOR TO NIGERIA WILL BE VERY SURPRISED BY THIS TERRIBLE FLAW IN OUR INFRASTRUCTURE. IT'S NOT JUST LAGOS. THE WHOLE COUNTRY. WE NEED A NATIONAL STANDARD FOR ALL ROADS THAT MUST BE ENFORCED. I DON'T KNOW WHY WE THINK IT'S OK TO HAVE SAND AND DIRT ON OUR STREETS, AND NO SIDEWALKS. IF YOU VISIT COMMON JAMAICA, YOU CAN NEVER SEE A ROAD THAT HAS NO SIDEWALK. YOU WILL NOT SEE A SINGLE OPEN GUTTER. THIS IS A COUNTRY WHOSE MAIN EXPORT IS BANANAS.

Unlike your Hero, who undeniable ignored any APC states. It got so bad Lagos had to borrow from China, so please don't tell me I am writing out of sentiment unlike yourself.

And you see nothing wrong in revoking the contract.

Can you then tell the house what that money he saved was used for?

When you are done with the first question, then tell the house infrastructural achievement / legacy of Buhari when he ruled Nigeria.

Have you ever heard of long term benefit of a project?

I don't know, maybe the strengthing of the Naira, back then one Pound was one Naira.

Or the reduction of inflation making it easier for business to boom.

Or how about the only 3 refineries that we have today, were you not told it was Buhari who built them.

You are so full of hate. Grow up.

You see what I said not too long ago? History is alien to many Nigerians.

Are you saying the refineries we have were built between 1983 and 1985 when Buhari ruled Nigeria? How dare you say onne pound was equal to one Naira in 1984 and 1985?

I refused to be disappointed by your lies / ignorance. Even Buhari will deny your claim.

Your conclusion is epic. I'm full of hate because I say the truth- you've just exposed one of the reasons Nigerian youths cannot be entrusted with power / governance.

Whatever dude. What you described isn't unique to Lagos and will apply to any city as congested and fast-paced. I've lived in NYC and visited L.A Cali a few times too (L.A is even worse than Lag in my opinion, with its ghettos and gang-violence and all).So all what you ascribed to Lag are ever present there as well -- the good, the bad, and the ugly. This can only be expected in any megacity with its population and size so kini big deal?
LA worse than Lagos Comedy of the century!!

I remember saying this sometime ago on a thread where someone was so foolish to say Lagos is better than Abuja.
Is that person normal? One who enjoys a very stressful, dirty, lousy environment undecided

phantom:

Dude relax. Dont burst an artery over nothing.that ranking is so so true. Even within Nigeria,Lagos is worse than many other cities(in livability).
I wonder how People live there.
The stress levels are just cray!!!little wonder one sera a Man in his thirties looking like one in his fifties.
ive said it before.....Lagosians are like drug addicts. they enjoy the city while it slowly eats away their soul

Nigeria is the richest country in Africa, but when it comes to infrastructure provided by the federal govt, Nigeria is actually outspent by other small countries, e.g. in 2015-16 budget the federal budget of Nigeria was lower than the national budget of countries like Tunisia, Algeria, and even Kenya. that's why the cities of these countries have better infrastructure, it's not because of rapid ubernisation, that happens everywhere, it's not even about over population of Nigerian cities, because Nigerian GDP/capita is at $3000 USD, compared to Kenya which is 1, 900, so ideally, for every cent spent on a Kenyan by the government (whether for hospital , road, education, govt services) the Nigerian govt should be able to outspend that cent by like 40% more, but that's not the case .

While we are here blaming present or past leaders for the mess in Lagos.Dont forget to note that a typical lagosians is very dirty especially with his environment. When you move around and see there is no standard toilet and sanitary provision. When you see people messing up the streets and littering it with refuse.

Have you gone to mile12 market? have you gone around ketu and see how people enjoy dirtiness.
Have you been to bariga and environs?...these are community locations and has nothing to do with federal government.
Please take a walk to oyinbo and ebute-metta,or ilaje........please spare me the blame.

ALL THE WATERSIDE,LAGOON AND PEOPLE LIVING AROUND SHOWS A TYPICAL DIRTY AND UNHEALTHY LIVING.

Have you been to mile2,ikeja under bridge, idumota and all the major markets?

Not to mention how people live in filthy environments....who will you blame?
Or is it the noise pollution and air pollution?
Abii the way people dump their refuse on the streets.

Some landlords can not afford to build basic toilet in there houses.
Women will be cooking near a dump site or close to garbage.

Abegii lagos is not getting better.
The citizens are the cause of their problem.
