Is APC Doing Anything Differently? by Nobody: 7:51pm On Aug 18, 2015
Since the coming to power of All Progressive Congress on May 29, 2015, expectations have been ridiculously high. The highest percentage of Nigerians who voted People Democratic Power out of power have since been expecting President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration to turn Nigeria around in a twinkle of an eye. I cannot blame them. Because some of the miracle-expectants have either been frustrated by the numerous unfulfilled promises of PDP for 16 years, or patience is something hard for them to cope with.

These miracle expectants should not be blamed. They have been repeatedly disappointed by successive governments.

However, here are the seven cardinal things APC should do differently if the party does not want to toe the falling path of PDP:

Fight Insurgency Headlong.

Fighting terrorism goes beyond giving ultimatum to service chiefs. It goes beyond declaring victory on the pages of newspapers. The military must be empowered in terms of military sophistication and motivation.

The era of monkey dey work, baboo dey chop which was rampant during the days of PDP-led administration must stop forthwith. Junior officers must be convinced that there are enough reasons to lay their lives for their loved country in the course of battling the terrorists.

Nipping Corruption in the Bud.

The war against corruption can never be successful if the judiciary is not strengthened, if the EFCC is not empowered, if the existing laws are not strict. If all these are not adequately put in place, lawyers would only smile to banks. But make corruption a capital punishment just as it exists in China, or make it a minimum of 30 years jail term.

Set up APC Volunteer Group

In politics, there will always be some people or group of people who will always fervently believe in your ideology.

APC as the ruling party must have real volunteer people who are not after monetary gain. This group, APC Volunteer Group, will be to support APC manifestoes and programmes. Already, plans are underway to launch this group. But APC supporters must exercise caution in accepting volunteers.

Disband National Directorate of Employment (NDE)

This agency has lost it. A directorate that does not know the actual number of unemployed youths/graduates should be disbanded. The agency is just another parasite sucking the economic blood of Nigerias treasury. The yearly budget for the directorate should be diverted to other areas of more economic importance.

Strengthen naira

President Muhammadu Buhari did promise during electioneering campaign that he would make $1 to #1. Nigerian people are still awaiting that. But since the change of baton from PDP to APC, naira has not stabilize. It goes up or slightly down, then up and up again. The promise must be fulfilled as it goes a long away in adding value to our economy.

Reducing cost of governance

The merger of different political parties in preparation for the 2015 general elections was not just the only reason responsible for the downfall of PDP.

The careless and extravagance of PDP-led government worsened its performance at the poll. Even a market woman who knows few or nothing about government knew PDP was lavish and bombarded with uncontrollable corrupt set of people at all levels.
If APC toes this path, it may witness more terrible performance at subsequent elections.

Improve power supply

Nigerians are tiredly sick of reading increased megawatts on the pages of newspapers without reflecting on the output of what they enjoy at home.
Erring power supply officials who issue out exorbitant bills without power supply for weeks should be sanctioned. PDP have failed woefully in this aspect, and APC must avoid the same mistake.

What other things do you think APC should do differently?

Im sure you expected to see creating job opportunity, right? I want to hear from you. Share your view right here or on WhatsApp via 08065277758
