So, the review is for which stage of the selection process? Is it for reading committee in the UK or for local embassy?

I believe it is for local embassy. Final list should be ready by Feb.

Flamesjay: I got the exact same update. Does "The next stage" being referred to here mean the interview stage? I don't even know what stage my application is in currently.

PS: Nice discussion by the way. I'm applying from Ethiopia. Couldn't find a similar forum by my people.

If the timeline is strictly followed, applications that were successful at the reading committee stage by now are passed to local embassy to shortlist for interviews

That's good. First time am applying. Let's see how it goes...we only get a few slots here so it is extremely competitive.

So our applications are now in the reading committee stage? Is that correct?

I don't really know the exact stage we are into. But, if the timeline is something to go by, we are into local embassy stage.

Thanks again. It is very clear. If, say, one makes it to the interview stage, the notification will be through e-mail or by calling? Or just a change in the status?

I also haven't made any application to any of the three universities I chose. I was thinking maybe I should wait and see if am called up for an interview..? I have already done the IELTS though and uploaded the trf.

I will, thanks. You think having an unconditional offer will increase one's chances of being called up for an interview?

Not really, but not having it as at 14 July 2016 may lead to disqualification.

@ abdinho I think u should apply to ur choice schools ASAP, cause most schools might have a carrying capacity and also to give u enough time to obtain an offer as you might be asked how far at your interview, all the best.
Presonally I think been shortlisted is totally an act of Godncause even after writing well and the long list is sent to your local embassy,we were not told the criteria for the local embassy to use and make a shortlist.

To my little understanding, the believe is that after the reading and stuff, we will be graded and given marks based on our reference, motivation, leadership and all those answers, and relevance to their selected important areas for our country, then pass it down to the local *British* Embassy in your country for shortlistment, those with a high score or thereabouts will be shortlisted for interview then they trim it further after the interview (I also believe the interview will be in two batch, *I might be wrong on that though). The whole stuff is based on merit to me. After submitting your application, everything boils down on luck and most importantly God's grace and favour, my little opinion though. Happy waiting all, I will also advise we start making application to our university as some of them have deadline for application. Once again please anyone that picked University of Birmingham should please notify me. Thanks for your time.

Can GRE be used in place of IELTS?
