Ebonyi State Government Has Forced Afikpo Community Into Eternal Darkness

****PRESIDENT BUHARI PLEASE COME AND SAVE AFIKPO PEOPLE----WE ARE IN DARKNESS:

There was a big protest against the EEDC in AFIKPO, the second largest community in Ebonyi State for not giving them the Light they are paying for, for almost one year now. The angry youths was alleged to have destroyed some properties belonging to EEDC on same day. This prompted the Government led by Engr. Dave Umahi to unleash total light out in Afikpo. When this Light out issue was reported to both EEDC and those in the state helm of affairs, nobody including the Governor and his House of assembly members made inquiries as to know why Afikpo has had no Light for almost one year. It was a member representing Afikpo North in the House of Assembly, Hon.Udeh Nwachi Maria, who took it upon herself to table it to the State for possible resolutions. After so many trials and failures, the youth had to react angrily. If it were you, wont you react? Paying for what you dont eat is the worst form of extortion that can be mated to any community. Instead of Governor Umahi to look into the matter by atleast coming to ask or send someone to make inquiries as to settle issues, he connived with the house of Assembly members to put the community that worked assiduously for the creation of Ebonyi state into total darkness. At present, the Ebonyi State House of Assembly, yesterday suspended Hon. Maria Udeh Nwachi, the Minority Leader of the House and member representing Afikpo North-East Constituency, who always fought for the restoration of the light, for allegedly masterminding last Monday's Youths demonstration against the Enugu Electricity Distribution Compamy(EEDC) in Afikpo North Local Government Area of the state, which according to the House, led to the burning of three vehicles of the EEDC. The motion for the suspension which will last for two weeks, was moved by Onu Nwonye representing Ohaozara West Constituency and seconded by Victor Chukwu represting Ezza North-West Constituency.

The Minority Leader, Maria Nwachi was among other things accused of holding road users to ransome for several hours by blocking Afikpo-Abakaliki Highway. Why wont you fight if you loved your people. For God sake, she was elected to fight for our dividend and that was what she did.She did not commit any crime. In another recent development, the Ebonyi State govermment, through the Commissioner for Power,Hon.Emmanuel Uguru, had directed the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company(EEDC) to suspend the restoration of light to Afikpo Area pending when the people replace the properties destroyed by the youths of the community. Is that how a reasonable Leader should react? No wonder we craved for change. Buhari should come to our rescue and deliver us from this unscrupulous leaders who only concentrate on the development of their own parts, forgetting other parts.

We first cheated ourselves by voting that Umeahi in the just concluded election. When majority of the people collected money and voted for PDP in mass, they never remembered the future, that a time like this will come when we will need a true leader to stand for us. Now we have nobody except Mary de club to stand for us. I knew Umeahi is very wicked so I voted for a labour candidate. As for the light let them keep it, at least they have reason for keeping us in darkness than collecting our money without rendering the service they were paid.
