Against intense criticisms on President Muhammadu Buhari’s foreign trips, Nigeria is set to start reaping from its dividends as the United Nations, UN, Secretary General; Ban Ki-moon is expected to visit Nigeria on a 2-day working visit from August 23rd to 24th, to hold meetings with Buhari, State Governors and Business class.

The meeting is scheduled to focus on Pathways for Nigeria’s role in consolidating its sub-national governments and also lay a wreath to commemorate the 4th Anniversary of the terror attack on the United Nations house which took place on August 27, 2011.

Buhari embarked on a series of foreign trips immediately after being inaugurated into office, this action quite duly raised concerns and criticisms, leaving Nigerians to ponder on the direct benefits such trips would bring to their lives.

The All Progressives Congress, APC, in a bid to camouflage the perceived poor outing by the President during his visits, released a press statement dispelling any claims that Buhari’s visit were useless.
Against the barrage of criticisms, the visit by Ban Ki-moon is set to be the only dividends Nigerians have been presented as part of the give away from Buhari’s foreign trips.

His visit to Nigeria would involve a business dialogue with Nigeria’s Business class on the theme “The role of Nigerian Business and Economy in Implementing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and addressing Climate Change,” and also embark on a field visit to Kuje Area Council in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT.

He will also hold talks aimed at deepening Nigeria’s democracy with government officials and state governors on the theme “Democracy, Sustainable Development and Countering Violent Extremism,” at the end of his meeting, there will be a joint press conference between Buhari and Ban Ki-moon which would be followed by a dinner hosted in his honor. Ban-ki moon is just coming for visiting sake, Buhari's fruitless trip to the U.S didn't in anyway influence it.
