Kaduna State governor, Mallam Nasir el-Rufai, the former governor, Senator Ahmed Mohammed Makarfi and Senator Ahmed Mukhtar Aruwan alongside other muslim leaders yesterday attended the Sunday Church service of the ECWA Gospel Church, Lemu Road, Tudun Nupawa, Kaduna State.
Their attendance, which was at the invitation of the church, was part of the church’s efforts at strengthening religious harmony and peaceful coexistence among all, regardless of religious differences.
Although Governor El-Rufai was not physically present at the church service, he sent in his goodwill message and commendation of the gesture through his representative, Mr Iliya Kudan, who is the director of religious affairs, Christian matters.
El-Rufai in his address as delivered to the gathering solicited prayers and support from all and sundry in the efforts to move the state forward and make Kaduna State great again.
Senators Makarfi and Aruwa and other muslim leaders were physically seated throughout the church service, and in their separate speeches commended the efforts of the ECWA Church leadership at uniting people of different religious divides, urging others to follow suit.
Both leaders opined that religious groups and traditional leaders should endeavour to promote religious interaction for peaceful coexistence.
Muslim youths numbering about 100 equally attended the church service, and their leaders in their goodwill message similarly commended the church’s effort.
In his welcome address, the senior pastor of the church, Rev Yunusa Nmadu said the church was practically building on the peaceful and religious coexistence which was laid by Senator Makarfi when he was the governor of the state.
