Tricky Job Interviews Situations: Effective Ways To Handle Them. by macho44(m): 12:13pm On Aug 27, 2015
Job interviews could be quite an unnerving experience, but if you know how to handle some of the stickiest situations encountered in interviewing, you can be much more confident. I’ve outlined some of the trickier situations you might come across in the course of being interviewed for a job.

Bad Interviewer Encounter: You should know that not every professional who conducts job interviews with candidates knows how to do so effectively. Some interviewers could be downright lousy at conducting interviewing. The bad interviewer is most likely to be unfocused, disinterested, & unprepared. Such an interviewer might dominate the interview by doing all the talking or might ask inappropriate and unethical questions.

The unfocused interviewer might not have gone through your CV and might not even remember where he or she kept a copy of your Resume or CV. Be sure to offer this disorganized interviewer a copy of your CV and at the same time asking, “May i take you through some highlights of my career?”. The surly, grumpy interviewer may be having a bad day or may be testing your patience and temper by being unpleasant. Don’t let the interviewer’s demeanour or behaviour put you in the wrong frame of mind. Keep smiling and respond to questions with as much zeal as you would with a cheerful interviewer.

Drawing a Total Blank: What happens in a situation where you simply cannot come up with an answer to a question? Pause for a moment to think. Instead of just allowing the air remain dead while the seconds hand of the clock ticks away, politely ask the interviewer for a minute to think. If it happens that you are truly stuck, ask if you could come back to that question later during the interview. Such a request is a risky strategy that may eliminate you, but it’s a better alternative than not answering at all.

Sweating Profusely: When you discover the situation that despite the air conditioner, you are still sweating profusely. Discreetly get out a clean handkerchief or tissue and dab the sweat. Similarly, if your hands tend to sweat, be sure to wipe them dry before shaking your interviewer’s hand.

Informal Social Event/ Interview:Whether it’s the night before or evening afterwards, an informal social event designed for for casual conversation is almost always part of the company’s visit agenda. Employers see this as a time to see how you seem to fit with their current mix of employee’s and you should use it as a time to see how this group fits you.

Some employers place a high degree of importance on this issue, so don’t forget for even a second that this event is a series of interviews. Don’t talk about controversial topics like religion and football; avoid getting into any form of arguments as well as all other types of bad habits/ manners which could ruin your chances of having a successful interview.
