Edo State Governor, Mr. Adams Oshiomhole, monday asked the former Minister of Works, Mr. Mike Onolemhemen, to explain how a whopping sum of $700 million meant for second Niger Bridge was expended.

The governor also lamented the grave conditions of federal roads in Edo State, which he said, had become impassable due to what he attributed to the failure of the Jonathan administration to make critical interventions.

He expressed disappointment in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Peter Okhiria, over Onolemhemen’s reaction to alleged mismanagement of $700 million taken from the Sovereign Wealth Fund (SWF) for the Second Niger Bridge project.

As contained in the statement, Oshiomhole said about N140billion was reported “to have been expended on the Second Niger Bridge without anything to show for it. The revelation came from those who were managers of the Sovereign Wealth Funds and not figures manufactured by anybody.”

The governor said the former minister should direct his energy and explanation “to the managers of the SWF, who have depleted the savings on the explanation that it was meant for the Second Niger Bridge.”

He added that Onolemhemen and the managers of the Sovereign Wealth Funds should also explain “to Nigerians what really transpired instead of asking Comrade Oshiomhole to apologize to Nigerians.
