Nicki Minaj Blasted By Her Natives For Being Too Jamaican by PoosPoos: 2:24pm On Sep 04, 2015 |
Nicki Minaj is under fire from some of her native Trinidadian fans for being a bit too Jamaican. After all Minaj dated a Jamaican guy for 12 years and grew up in Queens where Jamaican culture and music has a heavy presence. The criticisms came following her performance on MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday night. Following her carnival-themed duet with Taylor Swift at the VMAs, several Trinidadian natives took to social media to blast the “Only” rapper for being too heavily influenced by Jamaican music and culture. “Everybody talking bout true Trini but she sang the song in a Jamaican accent, but some Trini’s are so desperate for a lil recognition it doesn’t matter if she creates a totally false idea of how we speak and act, that’s why the world always think Trinidad is a place in Jamaica, the song reflected Jamaican culture more than anything else, the costume save her otherwise it would have nothing about her that truly reflects Trinidad,” on disgruntled man said. The truth is white people do not know or care where Trinidad is. Most people outside the carribeans have no idea where it is. A simple albeit inaccurate way to tell somebody about the place is saying 'close to Jamaica' and they'd've an idea. Only people in the know have a clue where Trinidad is. The best way to educate outsiders about Trinidad is using Jamaican culture; the accents and culture're alike anyway so using Jamaican culture acts like a primer to the norms of Trinidad. To my knowledge she did no wrong, anybody would do the same. 3 Likes |

geographically, Trinidad is closer to Venezuela while Jamaica is closer to Cuba and Haiti. however they all have Caribbean culture although with some variations by country. the Trinidad accent is also not the same as the Jamaican one. And, Trinidads look different from Jamaicans, on average. Most whites do know the difference between both countries. 1 Like |

tpiander:True. the Trinidad accent is also not the same as the Jamaican one. And, Trinidads look different from Jamaicans, on average.Equivalent to saying Yoruba people look different from igbos. The majority people of both countries have the same origin: west African slaves. Most whites do know the difference between both countries. They do not. The same way many blacks don't. I never knew the difference till some years back and would still mistake indigenes this very day. |
