In a nutshell , Afonja was a Yoruba traitor who helped to destroy the Oyo empire and handed over Ilorin to the Fulani jihadists in exchange for a promise of cooperation to install him as the Yoruba leader. He was promptly kicked out by the Fulanis, who till today, rule Ilorin which is 98% Yoruba. That is why you have Olusola Saraki, Bukola Saraki, and Agboola Gambari , Fulanis with fake Yoruba names and outlook, lording it over these "most educated" of Nigerians , right in their own land and with their acquiescence. Yet today, in order to spite their Igbo rivals who they helped the Alimi tendency to defeat in Biafra, they shout to the rooftops that the Yoruba race had never been defeated!!
As for Aalafin Aole, after being sentenced to commit ritual suicide by the Oyo Mesi( the Yoruba Parliament), he cursed the Yoruba race and predicted that they will be carried to the four corners of the earth as slaves and that their former slaves would rule over them. He fired four arrows to all the four corners of the compass. That is perhaps why at least 80% of the black slave diaspora, from Brazil to the Caribbean, to Cuba and the USA is of the ethnic Yoruba stock, a really sad situation, which is unfortunately celebrated by some "educated" Yoruba people as a sign of Yoruba dispersal all over the world.
You have a Yoruba name, so please read the book, "A History of Nigeria" by my mentor, the late Professor F. Ade Ajayi and also the seminal work "The Black Mans Dilemma " by Areoye Oyebola and you will learn that the rain started beating the Yorubas and Nigeria from a long time ago and has not ceased after several centuries. Epelle OO!!

Op, you are suffering.

You have twisted facts and it is very glaring in your story. That means your story has no value and it is completely useless.

You see, that is the danger of not eating enough palm oil. If you had been eating enough palm oil, your brain would have adequate LDL and it would have been more functional.

Boy, try another trick next time. This one is DOA ( Dead on Arrival)...and make sure you eat enough palm oil before posting next time; it will help you to think and write better.

Not All The Yorubas In Kwara.. There Are Descendants of Afonja in Ilorin And that's a Place by the name IDI-APE,very close to the Emir's Palace... The Former Governor of Kwara The Late Mohammed Lawal got the Blood of Afonja Cuz Pple do Address him then as "Ekun Omo Laderin" And u Know Laderin is the Father of Afonja if I got it right.. The Afonja Descendants are Entitle to two chieftancy title in the Palace which is Baba Isale(Godfather) And Mogagi Aree(the Aree was Gotten from the word Aree Onakankanfo).. So the Mogaji Aree is the Head of Afonja Descendants who represent them in the Palace... Ilorin History is somehow that you Hardly Know the real One.. Those who can clear all Doubting Issues about the City are no More and those that has Knowledge won't talk about it..

To all of you sophisticated frogs lamenting that the OP is a liar and tribal bigot can you dispute the fact that Ilorin is an Emirate under the Sultanate?

Can you dispute that Afonja went into an alliance with the Sokoto Caliphate against the Oyo Empire for his own selfish greedy and myopic ambitions?

BishopMagic:
Any of you who had the privilege of a descent secondary school education will understand the "frog in water" theory.

The Frog in water theory stems from the lab experiments done in biological classes to show how cold blooded reptiles depend on their surroundings for warmth.

It basically involves two stages;

The first stage involves putting the frog in a beaker of hot water. Naturally the frog jumps out of the beaker due to the hot temperatures.

The second stage involves placing the frog in a beaker of cold water and slowly heating it up on a Bunsen burner. Remarkably the frog just sits there oblivious of what is going on. It will continue in this state of oblivion until it dies from the steaming water.

Now, when we apply this frog in water theory in our political landscape I see only parallels with the SW political class and general populace who never see beyond their noses.

It usually takes sweeping and drastic changes for the SW electorate to react just like the frog when placed in hot water but the SW is usually oblivious to slow and latent changes.

For how can we reconcile how the SW will suddenly again root for Buhari after 3 decades? The last time Buhari arrived on the political scene, he was supported heavily in the SW because at that time Shagari's govt was so vilified by the SW press that any "change" no matter how undemocratic or unconstitutional was welcomed.

Fast forward to present day and we can see how a well oiled propaganda machinery steered the SW voting block back to buhari.

They were made to believe that Buhari has since repented (this is the cold water stage) and can not act despotically in a democratic setting.

But since Buhari was sworn in he has never even bothered to tour the SW and show his gratitude for the enormous and crucial support they lent him. It is obvious that the SW press and media consultants were able to re-brand an old duara goat like Buhari to appear as a docile sheep.

Now that Buhari is slowly showing the SW that a despot at 40 is a despot for life they still cling stubbornly to the change rhetoric and Buhari's mythical puritan disposition.

The SW may never know they have entered one chance just like our frog sitting in the beaker of lukewarm water.

The abolishing of history from our schools is the worst thing that has happened to our growing youths. Lack of the knowledge of our history is really leading our youths astray. Our youths now argue so ignorantly and baseless even when the truth is glaring that you wonder what has gone wrong with us. A lot of violation of our constitutional procedure is happening and people are keeping quiet. If you talk, they will call you names and brandish you as ethnic and tribal bigot. Meanwhile a President that has intentional excluded a part of the country from his government is not a tribal or ethnic bigot. Our youths should try to read history to see that history is repeating itself. The reason why IBB an co overthrew Buhari is repeating itself. The man is manifesting himself again.

Also, those that see nothing wrong in excluding a region of the country with more than 50M people should read the mistake of former prime minister of Iraq Al Maliki. Al Maliki's deliberate exclusion of the Sunnis from his government against the advice of US and the West lead to the support of the Sunnis to ISIS which is devastating Iraq today. Buhari and his APC are making a big mistake that might finally erase the fragile unity of this country. He is towing a very dangerous trend by intentionally marginalizing the Igbos and people say all sorts of rubish that Igbos did not vote for him. GEJ did not win elections in most of the northern states in 2011 and he did not marginalize them. The Igbos made a decision based on Buhari's antecedents which others ignored and they are manifesting today.

Femi Adesina said last Friday that Buhari will balance his appointments in the future which means that the president agrees that his appointments were lopsided yet you wonder why some ignorant youths will take to social media to defend a wrong that portend danger for our country. We all love Nigeria and want good governance.

If the truth must be told, the yoruba nation has been very prolific in the production/modernisation of different versions/models of Afonja. . Especially since independence. Immediately after independence, with Awo tucked away in Lagos slugging it out with Zik, Akintola started a clandestine manouvers to undermine Awolowo nay Yoruba interests, in his bid to assume the leadership of the western region with the help of the northern NPC under the leadership of Sarduana and Balewa. This culminated in the arrest, detention and prosecution of Awolowo and his subsequent imprisonment at Calabar. The north was almost there in terms of the total control of the west before the coup/war ruptured things. .

Then, just after being released from prisons, Awolowo jumped into bed with the same group of people that hounded him. His support for the northern agenda, enthroned a northern dominated series of regimes that lasted from 1966 to 1999, only inter-sparsed by Obasanjo and Shonekans unplanned intrusions in the late 70s and early 90s. Even at that, it was Obasanjo that dragged the fulani back into the presidency while Awolowo wailed.. . Again, in 1993, a platoon of Afonjas led by those who will later form NADECO, went to beg Abacha to snatch power from Shonekan.. He did and they started burning tires all over Lagos when he renneged. It took the sophisticated interjection of Ekwueme and his G34 to save nigeria from the net realities of this wayward yoruba Afonjaic politics. .

Now, they are it again! Afonja Tinubu and Mo'hm Buhari. A northern king over Nigeria. When buharis runaway irridentism goes totally out of control, the same horde that rocketed him to power while pretending to be unaware of his infamous pedigree, will harangeu everybody to no end, forming some atarvistic associations like NADECO and co , just to fight their own creation.. Some nasty neighbour we have here..

Ilorin is just a single town amidst several others. There are yoruba towns in Kwara-South whose descendants were from Oyo, Osun, and even Ekiti. These groups had nothing to do with the politics of Afonja and the Fulanis. People just ignorantly think Ilorin denote Kwara as a whole.
Even Kwara was initially called West Central state prior to 1967 for crying out loud. Gowon's intention to collapse some natural boudaries by creation of the first 12 states was merely warfare tactics. He daftly fused people of distinct features together without proper consultations to weaken regional influences and give the center more power.

Tinubu thought he will be made the national
kingmaker
Tinubu’s story is like Afonja in Ilorin in 1817. Ilorin used
to be under the Oyo Empire and was the headquarters of
an Oyo General, Afonja. But Afonja rebelled against the
empire and helped bring about its collapse with the
assistance of the Fulani. Afonja was assisted by Shehu
Alimi, who was a Fulani leader. In 1824 Afonja was
assassinated and Alimi’s son became Emir and Ilorin
became an emirate of the Sokoto Caliphate
