AKURE — Tongues are wagging in Arigidi Akoko in Akoko North West area of Ondo State over the chopping off of the head of a woman for alleged ritual purpose. Already, Police authorities in the state have ordered full blown investigation into the incident which is causing panic in the community. Police sources said the headless body of the deceased was found along old Ogbagi/Arigidi Akoko road at about 9pm on Saturday. It was gathered that the deceased body, between 25 to 30 years, was discovered by a passerby who raised alarm and the Police were invited. Consequently, a team of detectives under the command of ASP Ezeala Obiora visited the scene and alleged that the corpse must have been dropped by suspected ritualists. Vanguard learnt that photographs of the body was taken after which the corpse was removed and deposited at the specialist hospital mortuary in Ikare. Contacted, the police image maker in the state, Wole Ogodo, confirmed the incident, saying: “The Policemen at Irun Akoko division were hinted on Saturday morning that there was an headless body of a lady whose name and address are yet to be known and suspected to be between 25 to 30 years of age lying along Old Ogbagi/Arigidi Akoko road.” Ogodo said investigation is on to unveil those behind the dastardly act.

Yoruba,SOKA-NIZATION: RITUALISTS FAST AND EVIL WAY TO GET WEALTHY.
Posted on July 8, 2015 by hollalaycan

soka1soka

If you are familiar with trends in Nigeria I bet it will be almost impossible for anyone to have missed the popular event about a RITUALIST den called SOKA in Ibadan, Oyo State south west of Nigeria. It is also not uncommon to hear amongst the street guys/girls, market women, transporters, news media, the resonating sound of SOKA. It was an incident that will forever remain in the archive of Ibadan and Nigeria in parenthesis. Just 2 months back, Nigerians were awoken with the story of an abandoned yard which is being used as a slaughter slab and guillotine yard by the men of the underworld, a mammoth crowd of youths had stormed the abandoned property and discovered what was to be the subject of discourse in both the national and international media. Men and women, young and old, sane and insane, living and dead, malnourished and marooned in a confinement not even fit for a condemned criminal were astonishingly found in this abandoned compound, they were all victims of kidnap for ritual purpose.

Consequent upon the discovery at Soka in Ibadan, other ritual dens in different forms were discovered here and there, a ritualist den was discovered by a fly-over bridge at ewekoro LGA on Abeokuta expressway, another baby factory was discovered at Adigbe also in Abeokuta, same goes for a baby factory at Akute in Ifo LGA of Ogun state, these baby factories are sometimes the “BLACK MARKET” for ritualists who either has money to cough out or the lily livered among them who dread the fear of the long arm of the law as well as jungle justice in the event they got nabbed for kidnap, an elderly woman selling local gin(paraga and jedi) as a decoy was equally arrested at sango-ota for dealing in human parts which subsequently she claimed they source their products from the cemetery and upon a thorough search on her apartment, a human skull and other human anatomical items were discovered, Just when we thought we had seen and heard enough of this barbarism the news media is awashed with another rumour of reverberating sound of SOKA again in Ado-Odo Ota LGA and Ifo LGA.

Just 2 weeks ago, there was a report in the news media of a particular building in Ayetoro Itele Ota LGA where a boy hawking his wares was quarantined by some people believed to be ritualist and taken inside their house apparently to perpetrate their evil act, unknown to these men who pretend they want to buy from this boy’s wares, another buyer was waiting outside for the boy hawker, upon realizing the boy hawker had stayed too long in the house which report says it’s a bungalow self compound, and in a bid to test his curiosity and surely satisfied he saw the boy entering the compound, the waiting buyer outside decided to knock on the gate of the compound and could not get any response, he immediately alerted residents of the area who promptly besieged the building and discovered it to be another SOKA of sort. What a sinful world we live!

In addition, another unconfirmed story pop-up that some school kids were also kidnapped in an area called senukoro in lafenwa Ayetoro,Ado-Odo Ota LGA just last week, the kids were said to have been discovered in an uncompleted apartment in the said community. The kidnapped kids were said to have been hypnotized as they could not mutter any word when rescued by the residents. In a bid to do a rendering on the SOKA trend, I was dazed to also discover that just some few streets away from my house another SOKA was unveiled on the 20th June 2014. It strongly beats my imagination as to how men of the underworld easily perpetrate this heinous crime notwithstanding the level of consciousness of the entire population about their activities. I was on my way home from work on Friday when we discovered there was a traffic snarl at Iju hill by Grail-land, I initially thought it to be the usual go-slow mode or another tanker has fallen into the ditch which is caving in as we welcome the rain downpour, or at most the notorious danfo drivers and some private educated illiterates car owners had forgotten to take their psychotic pills and decided to face the oncoming vehicles from Ajuwon axis thereby resulting in avoidable accidents as we witness on daily basis, alas! It was none of these assumptions the traffic was caused by a detachment of police team and ambulances who were on their way from the SOKA joint to retrieve the bodies of murder victims. I didn’t really get the message at that particular moment until I got to the last bus-stop in Ajuwon where I decided to pick a grocery and I could see people echoing the epic tale of what happened in a hush-hush tone. Since I don’t really fancy the OLOFOFO style of gathering info, I decided to move on, but setting out on Saturday morning I was duly informed by an okada man that a particular area called pipeline in Ajuwon, Ifo LGA has produced another SOKA. He told me there was still a mammoth crowd trying to catch a glimpse and heavy presence of security operatives at the point where the dead bodies of the victims were discovered. At that point, I began to ponder on the meaning of life and wonder if some people really believe in the hereafter, well your guess is as good as mine, the desperation for affluence and get money rich syndrome has eroded the values we place on our fellow being. If the gods/deities have decided not to accept goats, pigeons, cows, white garments, palm-oil, bitter kola, kola nuts, salt and pepper anymore, why can’t the gods/deities ask for Ferrari, private jets, a mansion, gold/silver, and all other luxury of life instead of human parts and bloods? Even God Almighty does not ask for our blood for atonement or At-Thawba. It’s really high time we define how to restructure our security apparatus and establish intelligence resource centers across every community in Nigeria.

As a final point, if these ugly occurrences are not nipped in the bud, we might start to witness daylight snatching of persons for ritual purposes in the public glare and nobody would still not “GIVE A DAMN” (apology to Mr. President for using that phrase without his permission).

Can you all see why we the Yorubas used over 3 million Biafruds for pepper soup between 1967 and 1970? This was how Agbari-Ojukwu started speaking through his anus and then started a senseless war and finally ran to Ivory Coast to be with Ivorien prosti-tutes. If you start another senseless war, we shall kill you all. You shall all be shot with AK-47, survivors will be reshot with AK-49. We shall kill you all and make sure that your children never grow. We shall feed your corpses to our hunters' dogs. We shall wipe out the Nigerian Jews from the Nigerian map. You shall cease to exist. We shall make sure not a single one of you live.

Comparing Igbos With Yorubas by Zinicc: 1:31am

MOD Pls steer clear!

After the post below princdebola201 ran like matd out of his own post.

princdebola201, you had the guts to brag against Igbos. You and your Yoruba tribe should be ashamed of yourselves for dare comparing Igbos with Yorubas.

You should be ashamed of yourselves for being in the habit of using other regions to shield your cowardly mien. It's shameful that a typical Yoruba person cannot make his stand known without dragging some other tribes along. If it is not distorting history, it is ass-licking your slave masters by propagating lies of how your slave masters have always been peace-loving and accommodative and that it is the Igbos who provoke their host! Yet the Christian minorities and other Southerners in the North and in the Middle-belt continue are being maltreated and relegated to the background.
It is so disgusting and pathetic already!

You mentioned curse, what kind of curse are you referring to?
Is it the curse Alaafin of Oyo placed on the young braggard, Bode Thomas, for arrogantly insulting his office? Bode Thomas barked and barked like a dog till he kicked the bucket! Is that not the same way many Yorubas are barking on Igbo matter?

Is it the curse that made your god, Awolowo, to die in a miserable way?

Is it the curse that made your warrior, Benjamin Adekunle, a.k.a the scorpion, to eat his own excrement before he chose death in 2014? The was same Adekunle who mocked the pope, Red Cross, Caritas, World Council of Churches, UN etc.

What about your Field Marshall, MKO Abiola, who sunk containers of Christian materials and paid off the importer just to impress his slave masters in the North? Was it not this atrocious deed amongst many others that brought curse upon him which led him to his Waterloo?

So, what curse are you referring to?
Is it the curse on your slave masters or yourself?

Despite Awolowo’s free education, is the South-West not the worst hit by illiteracy in the South?
Whose region is being ravaged by internationally acclaimed drug peddlers, high-profile assassinations, frequent ritual-killings and treasury lootings?

Whose region is being ravaged by carnage, blood letting, terrible and strange diseases, abject poverty and penury?

I'm just trying to be as modest as possible with my choice of words.

Let's go down memory lane.

After the civil war, your god, Awolowo, defrauded the Igbo Nation, robbing her of her enormous wealth and transferring same to you parasites. As the Finance Minister, Awo, gave a paltry £20 to Igbo men who proved they had an account in the bank. That was all the Igbo man started life with!

And in 1971/72 Awo and his criminal gang colluded and issued the indigenisation decree which compelled the British companies to give up ownership of their companies.
With the stolen money from Igbo men's sweat at their disposal Yorubas in conjunction with their Northern co-travellers were able to acquire the companies in Nigeria.

Igbos started life from ground zero after the civil war with just £20, with their lands devastated, farmlands destroyed, markets destroyed, schools levelled, hospitals broken-down, with hunger ravaging her people and the children at the mercy of kwashiorkor. Inspite of these debilitating factors Igbos being a resilient people exerted themselves and within a short while they are at the top, competiting only with themselves.

As if the bank robbery was not enough and inspite of the 3Rs strategy mapped out to rehabilitate the Eastern region, Gowon and the subsequent regimes diverted the crude oil revenue from the East to develop Lagos State into a mega-city. And here you are bragging about same Lagos cum SW. Is Lagos State your father's land? Common migrants making noise as if they own Lagos. FYI, Lagos was built with the blood and sweat of every ethnic group in Nigeria! Take it or leave it! Nigeria or no Nigeria, you and your ilks CAN NOT do ANYTHING about it!

So far the Igbos have done well for themselves. The Igbos now boast of the best middle class, the most educated, the most enterprising, the most ambitious, goal getters and achievers.

Igbos survived the policy of strangulation imposed on them them by Gowon and Awolowo. And they are still surmounting some other criminal policies put in place by the criminal gang to checkmate the progress of the Igbos - quota system, federal character, admission catchment areas in schools, cut off marks for admission, fraudulent census figure, false voters register, lopsided local government areas and the likes.

And now Igbos are more than equal to the Yorubas and their co-travellers who were bequeathed with Nigeria's wealth on a plater of gold. The criminal gang acquired virtually all oil wells. They cornered over 85% of the oil wells as their prize for the war they prosecuted against the Eastern region.

princdebola201, and you're here comparing yourself with that same man you robbed his wealth; the same people who would need to get higher scores than the Yorubas to gain admission into schools.

Just by being Igbo by birth, Igbo standards have become too high even amongst themselves, but that has not made them lose heart and in fact it brought out the best out of them.

Inspite of the tortuous journey the Igbo man passed/passes through to achieve success the criminal system in place and the gang will not allow the Igbo man be. The gang is bitter and angry at the success of the Igbo man, that they use any given opportunity at their disposal to remind Igbos that they are the ones who accommodated them and therefore they should abide by their dictates, whims and caprices, including being coerced to vote the candidate of the host's choice in election.
But the Igbo man's resolve remains strong.

And you are here boasting of Folorunso Alakija who acquired her wealth from the commonwealth, from the crude oil in another man's backyard! It's a shame!

Before the 1967-70 civil war, an average Yoruba man did not measure up to the ever industrious Igboman. Even in the South-West Igbos were in the lead. Igbos were the first Black Vice Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, the first VC of the University of Lagos and the first Nigerian Rector of the then Yaba College of Technology in the South-West; the police was run by an Igbo IG; the military as a professional institution was run by brilliant Igbos; the first president of Nigeria and the first military ruler of Nigeria.

Nigeria economy assumed a downward trend when the gang acquired all Nigerian companies by virtue of indigenization decree of 1972. But they could not manage the companies instead they ruined, defrauded, liquidated, bankrupted and destroyed all the companies - that was the mother of destruction of Nigerian economy! The swindlers indeed bastardized the Nigerian economy.
And to divert attention from their ineptitude and crass looting of the treasury they would use illogical reasoning to attempt to bamboozle other people while pointing accusing fingers elsewhere!

After more than 40 years, despite the stolen wealth, the respective regions of the criminal gang cannot be said to be transformed and be one of the enviest in the world. None of their cities could be likened to, say the least, Johannesburg!

With all the disadvantages Igbos faced and still face they rose from grass to grace and you are not even ashamed to compare them with treasury looters.

It's not how far but how well!

Time shall tell...

ABEOKUTA — A herbalist identified as Chief Dandola Owotomo aka Amuludun Isese has been reportedly caught with human tongue, arm and a woman’s private part in Ijebu North-East Local Government Area of Ogun State.

He was said to be one of the three suspected ritualists arrested by police in the state in connection with the disappearance of a 70-year-old Kehinde Rabiu, who was declared missing at Idode-Imomo in the area.

Vanguard findings revealed that Owotomo,65, was arrested at his residence in Oke Agbo, Ijebu-Igbo in Ijebu North Local Government Area by policemen from Atan Police Division following a tip- off.

A police source from Atan Police Station, who pleaded anonymity, told Vanguard that the man was picked up by policemen after his house was searched where a shrine was uncovered with fresh human parts.

The source further said the police got a tip-off from a member of the Idode-Imomo Community Development Association, CDA, in the area.

It would be recalled that a kidnappers’ den was uncovered in the same area recently after the mysterious disappearance of the aged man which led to the arrest of three suspects.

According to the police source, ”we went to Ijebu-Igbo with the support of the CDA member after we got a tip-off from the people. When we got to the man’s house, it was an eyesore. We discovered a calabash in one of his rooms where a fresh human tongue, human palm and a woman’s private parts were kept in a shrine drenched with blood assumed to be human blood.

“We transferred him to Eleweran on Sunday and the Commissioner of Police has shown much interest in the case and had ordered that investigation should commence into the matter and he has promised to get to the root of the matter.”

When contacted, the police spokesman in Ogun State, Muyiwa Adejobi, who confirmed that some people had been arrested, said he was yet to be briefed on the latest happening.

Meantime, residents of the area have begun deserting their houses to neighbouring towns such as Atan, Eruwon, Odosimadegun and Ijebu-Ode following the fear of kidnappers and ritualists in the area.

Vanguard gathered that the residents believed their lives were no longer safe in the town following the discovery of the underground kidnappers’ den.

Every body know that an average '"yiibo" man will do everything to get money. If all tribes are accussing Yoruba on crime/criminality, "Igbo" should be an exception. If you pple can no more cope with the increasing profile of yorubas, why not vacating the southwest, try and see how you stay around your cities so you can start raising the living standard & make your regions attractive instead of these malicious attack on a tribe that an average igbo man has benefited tremendously from.

Yoruba Suspected ritualists dump woman’s corpse at Ogun refuse site

Suspected ritualists dump woman’s corpse at Ogun refuse site

The body of a 23-year-old lady has been dumped at a dump site at the Olomoore junction in Abeokuta metropolis, with some persons of the body already removed.

The victim’s name was given as Sitira, and said to be an apprentice hairdresser.

Before her tragic death, she was said to have completed her apprenticeship and was preparing for her freedom.

Some residents of the area believed that she was a victim of ritualists.

It was gathered that Sitira’s corpse was allegedly thrown off a moving jeep at the Olomoore dump site located along the Abeokuta-Lagos Expressway in the early hours of Sunday.

Littering the site were ladies pants, brassieres, camisoles, lip sticks, powder kits, and nail-paint, which suggested Sitira might not have been the only victim.

Some metres away from the spot, where these items were seen, lay the half-clothed Sitira’s corpse, with her camisole and ‘leggings’ intact.

But close observation of her corpse revealed that substantial flesh from her right arm was cut off, with body fluid oozing out.

Meanwhile, a middleage woman, Esther Adewuyi, who identified herself as a relative of Sitira, spoke with the journalists amidst sobbing.

She said the 23-year-old lady, who lost her only child two years ago, had been living with her mother in the Iberekodo area of Abeokuta North Local Government.

Adewuyi said, “Sitira was an hair stylist apprentice and she was last seen in their house around 10pm on Saturday night where she and her mother discussed plans for her freedom.

“Nobody, including her younger siblings, knew when she went out.”

When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, confirmed that Sitira must have been killed and dumped at the site.

He said, “We found the corpse in the area but we have taken the corpse to the mortuary.”

Yoruba, Suspected Ritualists Disguising As Lunatic Arrested in Ogun, Ibadan

eeeeeeeeeeee

A middle aged man has been arrested by officers of the Nigeria Police Force under the Ogun State Command in connection with an underground cell suspected to be ritualists’ operation base at Iyana Egbado village in Ewekoro Local Government Area of Ogun State, south west Nigeria.
The suspect was allegedly arrested with pieces of meat suspected to be chopped human parts in a polythene bag.
It was gathered that the suspect had attempted to kill a woman before she was rescued by a passers-by under a bridge, just about 250 meters away from the main gate of a popular cement company along the Abeokuta -Lagos expressway
The suspect, simply identified as Gbenga, was said to be a lunatic and had lived in the area since the past nine months.
He pleaded with the crowd not to kill him, asking for an opportunity to confess.
According to a report, the suspect told the mob that he belonged to a five-man syndicate among them a woman who operated in the Ewekoro axis of the state in the past nine months.
It was further gathered that police officers from the Itori police station arrived at the scene of the incident and thereafter whisked the suspect away to avoid being lynched by the mob that gathered at the scene of the incident.
Confirming the incident, the State Police spokesman, Mr Muyiwa Adejobi said the State Commissioner of Police, Ikemefuna Okoye, had ordered full investigation into the incident, but quick to ask members of the public not to take laws into their hands.
In a related development, the Oyo State Police Command arrested two suspects, who disguised as lunatics, at a suspected ritualist den.
They have confessed that they were human body parts dealers.
After a security meeting with Governor Abiola Ajimobi, the state Commissioner of Police, Mr Mohammed Indabawa, said that it was not yet clear if the suspects were involved in the Soka incident.
Residents of Soka area had, last week, found decomposing human remains, skeletons and about 23 survivors inside an abandoned building dubbed the “House of Horror”.
The discovery sparked protests in the area, with protesters targeting lunatics seen around the area.
After the protest began, the government ordered the withdrawal of lunatics from major streets, with over 42 lunatics withdrawn so far in order to prevent them from further attacks.
There are also indications that forensic pathologists sent from the Force Criminal investigation Department in Nigeria’s capital, Abuja, have started work on the den.
The Oyo State Security Council, after an emergency meeting on Wednesday, reaffirmed its resolve to apprehend perpetrators of the dastardly act of kidnap at the Soka area of the state capital.
Addressing journalists after the meeting headed by the state governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, the State Commissioner of Police, Mr Muhammed Ndabawa, stated that among others, preliminary investigations from the security agencies had revealed that the den of kidnappers and the activities of kidnappers in the place now tagged Evil Forest, had been in existence since about 10 years ago.

The yuletide season and election years are always known to be the period where many desperate politicians and people looking for fast money take to various crimes to achieve their aim and in Osun State, south west Nigeria, ritual killers are having a field day.

Few days after the headless body of a young girl was discovered in an uncompleted building, in Magaji Area of Iwo, the headquarters of Iwo local government area, two other mutilated bodies were found on the Ife-Ibadan Expressway in the state yesterday.

The bodies which could not be identified, are suspected to be the handwork of ritualists who are becoming desperate.

The incident, according to the Daily Sun Newspaper, is sending a wave of fear and confusion around the state as no one knows where the evil people will strike again and who the next victim would be.

Reports by the paper stressed that the bodies must have been dumped on the road in the wee hours of the day, creating the impression that they were either killed in the town or brought from nearby Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

A man who was among the first set of people that arrived at the scene was quoted as saying:

"We strongly suspect that the bodies were dumped as early as 4 am. From our observations, the same parts were missing in both bodies. Heads, private parts and their limbs were all cut off. We only met the torsos.

We could not also determine the sexes of the bodies because unsuspecting vehicles had smashed them possibly because it was still dark when they were dumped."

According to another resident of the town, ritualists, especially those involved in picking unsuspecting passengers on the road, may have set up camps in the forest around the expressway.

Metro Human Spare Parts 'Market' Uncovered in Ogun State

Discussion in 'Metro News' started by Lequte, Jun 18, 2015.

Nigeria - The Ogun state police has uncovered a ritualist den in Ode Remo where human parts were being sold and eaten by some people suspected to be ritualists, Daily Times says.

Yoruba Susupected-Ritualist.

The discovery by the police, also led to the arrest of five suspects. At the shrine, decomposing body parts suspected to be that of a missing female student of Science Laboratory Technology department at Gateway Polytechnic, Saapade, Morenikeji Owolabi, were found dismembered.

Speaking at Eposo area of Ode Remo, the state Commissioner of Police, Val Ntomchukwu, said the prime suspect, who is a herbalist identified as Femi Awise, is still at large.

Ntomchukwu disclosed that five suspects, including a commercial motorcyclist that conveyed the victim to the scene, have been arrested and would be arraigned in court upon the completion of police investigation.

The suspects, who were detained at the Divisional Police Headquarters, Isara-Remo, include Adeyemi Ademolu, 29, Lateef Ali, 23, Dare Akinyemi, 22, Wasiu Sotola, 23 and Taiwo Omolaso, 22.

Human flesh that were butchered into pieces and apparently cooked were seen in one black pot, while the right limb of the victim was seen in a nearby shallow grave.

The stench oozing from the place did not stop scores of people in the town and its environs to throng the shrine to catch a glimpse of the police discovery.

“What we want to tell the public is that they should monitor the movement of their wards and children, especially when they are left in school and other public institutions. They should always keep watch over their children, call them regularly and where they don’t see them, they should quickly report to the police.” Ntomchukwu said.

CAR DEALER ALLEGES ABDUCTION INTO US , SUES NIGERIA AND US

Car dealer alleges abduction, sues Nigeria, U.S

By Gbolahan Gbadamosi, Judicial Correspondent

LEGAL pressures to force the Federal Government and United States to return a
car dealer, Alhaji Lanre Shittu, who was recently taken out of the country
commences this week before the District Court of New York and Federal High
Court, Abuja.

According to his lawyer, Mr. Mike Okoye, "it is as clear as day follows the
night that Alhaji Lanre Shittu was abducted and taken to the U.S in
collaboration with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), American
Drug Enforcement Administration and American marines stationed at the airport
fully armed on Monday, November 27, 2000."

He added that his client, along with three others, appeared before the U.S
court last Thursday and the next appearance will be on Friday.

"Already, we have commenced proceedings in conjunction with our associates in
the U.S. The court will be urged to hold that the District Court of New York
lacks the jurisdiction to entertain the matter because both countries have
violated the treaty on extradition which they agreed to be binding on them,"
he said.

Also today, before Mr. Justice Okechukwu Okeke at Abuja, Okoye will commence
the argument on the motion on notice asking the court to direct the
Attorney-General of the Federation or its agents "to repatriate Alhaji Lanre
Shittu and produce him before this honourable court pending the hearing and
determination of this suit."

Besides, he will press for the commencement of proceedings against the
chairman of NDLEA Alhaji Bello Lafiaji and the Director of Public Prosecution
Mr. Femi Fatoba "for their flagrant disobedience and disrespect of the orders
of this honourable court."

Richard Shittu, Lanre's brother deposed to a 20-paragraph affidavit in support
of the motion where he averred that "Alhaji Lanre Shittu has been abducted
from his native country, Nigeria, in flagrant violation and in utter disregard
to the proceeding and orders of this honourable court."

Narrating how his brother was "abducted," he said that on his return from one
of the court proceedings at Abuja on November 27, he invited Alhaji Shittu in
company of Mrs. Shittu where he (Alhaji Shittu) told them that he got
information from NDLEA operatives that NDLEA had concluded plans with some
American DEA agents to abduct him to the U.S.

"That minutes thereafter, we saw the applicant, Alhaji Lanre Shittu being
chained in hands and legs while screaming for help, we also noticed that the
Americans who had earlier on identified themselves to us, saying to him, we
will inject you if you do not co-operate in this matter," he averred.

Richard further deposed that, when his brother was driven out of NDLEA's Shaw
Road, he and Mrs. Shittu "drove in pursuit to know where the applicant was
being taken to and we ended up at the Lagos International Airport, where I saw
the applicant being disembarked at a distance. I also saw the NDLEA agents and
the American DEA agents bundling the applicant into an aircraft."

Corroborating this averment, Okoye told The Guardian that unlike in Nigeria,
his client has access to telephone facilities where he narrated how he was
abducted.

Shittu was reported to have told him that DEA officials confirmed that the
decision to take him away had the approval of the Presidency, which made him
(Shittu) to accept his fate.

Okoye, however, believes that "Shittu will definitely get bail and return to
Nigeria because the U.S government affords protection to other citizens even
Nigerian unlike Nigerian government which will sell you as if one were in the
era of slave trade."

"The question that bothers my mind, is how those who claimed they have
suffered injustice in the hands of military can turn around to mete injustice
to their own citizens whom they owe a duty to protect," he queried.

He asked: "Was it too much for our government to allow for due process to take
its course? Where lies our sovereignty where U.S Airforce plane can land in
Nigeria and remove its citizen to U.S. It is obvious that Nigeria and U.S are
in violation of the extradiction treaty which is binding on all persons and
sovereign nations."

It's a known fact that an average "yiibo" man will do everything for money. If all tribes castigate Yoruba on crime/criminality, "Igbo" should be an exception.

These ppl will do good by simply relocating away from the south west, better to any of their cities and see how living standard there can be improved to reduce the rate at which thier wards move in to lagos (southwest) instead of this continuous ungrateful attack on a tribe which has benefited them tremendously.

Emerging Trend Of Social Almajiri In Yorubaland
By Hakeem Jamiu
There is a social malaise which is gradually creeping into the lexicon of Yorubaland and this is the ugly spectre of hungry children begging for food and alms at social events. Older women are equally not left out in this ugly but strange practice in Yorubaland. It is strange in Yorubaland because the concept of almajiri which simply means street urchin is common in the Northern part of the country. Yorubas use to refer derisively to anybody soliciting for arms in Yorubaland in the olden days as almajiri. The almajiri of the North are usually children between the age bracket of 7 and 20 in most cases. Almajiris are so desperate for food that any unsuspecting visitor to the Northern part of the country who goes to a restaurant to eat but mistakenly left his food to wash his hands is likely to lose such to waiting almajiris before he comes back for the food.

I first noticed this ugly trend at a ceremony I attended a few months ago at Ayetoro Ekiti. Elderly and middle aged able bodied women from Kwara, Osun and Oyo states invaded the burial ceremony uninvited and were embarrassing guests who refused to give them money. Also noticeable were children with their begging bowls who thronged the venue of the ceremony soliciting for left over food and alms. The children were a pitiable sight. Poverty was clearly written on their faces. I have attended many social functions after that and the same trend was noticeable. But I became worried a few days ago, when I attended the burial ceremony of a friend's father in Ilesha , Osun State . They came in various groups and employ different methods in soliciting for alms. There were the elderly women who were busy harassing guests in the name of praise singing and would not leave until you part with money, there were the men with their public address system which they use in praise singing but which is disturbance and yet, there were Yoruba children in the mould of almajiris with their begging bowls scrambling for left-over and at the same time soliciting for alms.

Fellow guests on my table at the event who were also journalists expressed their concern in unison about the growing trend of almajiri of various categories in Yorubaland. They all agreed that it has become a social problem. We started discussing and realised that the culture of begging in the mould of almajiris is alien to Yoruba culture. In those days before the advent of the British, the Yorubas are a proud people known for their hard work and industry. They practiced hoe agriculture and were well known as traders and for their crafts. Yoruba artists have produced masterpieces of woodcarving and bronze casting, some of which date from as early as the 13th century. Many of Nigeria 's best-known artists and writers are Yoruba. Other occupation of the Yorubas at that time were drumming and masquerading which would now be called showbiz. They engage in all the foregoing occupation but a Yoruba man or woman (able bodied) would not beg for alms as it is considered shameful and something akin to a curse. The Yorubas cherish their oriki (folklore) which is a poetic version of eulogizing the exploits of their progenitors which is an incentive for them to excel and even surpass their progenitors. The Yorubas have harsh words for lazy people. Such people are objects of ridicule and butt of jokes in the society. With this background, it is understandable why we became worried with the array of beggars at the Ilesha ceremony.

After leaving the party, I reflected on the scenario of the almajiris in Ilesha and I was able to draw a relationship between Political almajiris and social almajiris. I discovered that social almajiri had its root in the advent of the politics of do -or-die introduced into the political lexicon of Yorubaland by apostles of mainstream politics especially ex-President Obasanjo. The grand Patron of political almajiris who recently passed away was Chief Lamidi Adedibu. Many have argued that his dath has led to the profilration of almajiris in Yorubaland. This is because those he hitherto dole handouts to must look for other means of survival since he is no more. These political almajiris are ready to exchange their mothers for few coins. A new political class of men without integrity and anything goes was created and they became political almajiris who survive on crumbs from their masters. They would rig, kill, maim and do all sort of things to acquire political power. With the ascension of these men in power, good governance became a thing of the past. Our collective patrimony was squandered by these political almajiris. Nigeria has never been so blessed with petro dollar with oil selling for $156 dollars per barrel but Nigeria has never been so poor with a chunk of the population living below poverty line. So versions of the political almajiris are the social almajiris that now invade ceremonies in Yorubaland. With these children begging for alms, a ready made market for thuggery and other social vices is assured. The activities of the beggars are not limited to parties. At bus stops in our cities, it is a common sight to see women most of who are still in their mid thirties, who would strap a baby at their backs and approach men with stories of despair to solicit for alms. Many of them would end up in bed with such men. This is another brand of alamajiri and these are Yoruba women. A violent version of almajiri but which is gradually being tackled in Lagos is the 'Area Boys' syndrome. These are Yoruba street urchins who are semi- armed robbers.

The underlying factor in this new trend is failure of the Nigerian State on one part and the laziness on the part of these women. Most of them don't want to work.. In those days, when everybody's occupation was farming you dare not beg. You must find something to do. But these days, our women and children are too lazy. It is either they steal or beg. In most cases a mother and child become almajiris at social events. So the question now is can a Yoruba man now refer derisively to a Hausa beggar as almajiri when we have many of them now in Yorubaland? The answer is no! This trend must be arrested before it goes out of hand. The almajiris in the North these days engage in novel forms of drug abuse like sniffing of gutter water to get intoxicated, sniffing of adhesives and other drugs so that they are ever ready to unleash terror on the rest of the society whenever they are called upon to do so by the political wing of almajiris. I strongly recommend that guests at public functions must stop encouraging almajiris by giving them money.

But can government which itself owns the political wing of almajiris arrest this trend? Time will tell.
