Don't know maybe you've all forgotten it. The NigComSat-1 - space project (supposedly) launched in May, 2007 to serve for 15 years, through a contract between nigerians ministry of science and Technology and a Chinese company. The satelite is said to be the 3rd Nigeria's satelite launched in the orbit and failed after some test mode.
However, it was reported that the contract which was worth millions of Dollars, was finally re-launched in March 2009 and was delivered later around late 2011. Which was also confirmed working by FGN and called NigComSat-1R. And if it's fully functioning, it will serve us, according to NigComsat.com the following purposes:
1. Broadcasting
NIGCOMSAT provides, amongst several
services, Direct-To-Home (DTH) Broadcasting,
Multimedia, Video streaming and Hotspot
event services
2.Broad Band
NigComSat-1R is built with radiation-
hardened technology, high reliability, on-
board software re-programmable ability,
fault tolerance, redundant components and
high efficiency
3.Bandwidth Leasing
Our broadband service connects customers
in parts of Africa and Asia providing multiple
solutions to their communication needs, on
the Ku-band, C-band and Ka-band platforms
on NigComSat-1R

Key Services
NIGCOMSAT will revolutionize the way
governments operate, by guaranteeing a reliable
and secure communication infrastructure. The
possibilities are endless; from Customs and Excise payments, to National database creation and management, to e-passports, among others.

My question is, is it truly working or a camouflage? And if not, who's name shud me brought to book?

Did u hear anything about it since OBJ left office? I think yaradua made minor investment but since then nothing about it.
It is difficult to believe that Nigeria is even using a south African and Egypt satalite band.

Last I heard of it was the Nigcomsat-2 which was launched not too long after. BBC's focus on africa highlighted that the sattelite was able to detect weather patterns to aid farmers know when and where to plant crops.

The report was done in 2013. That was the first and only time I heard about the sattelite(s) since launch.

Its still in orbit. Its operations is shrouded in too much secrecy, the usual way of doing things in nigeria.

No. Its operations is under the nigeria space agency (cant remember acronym of agency). Its currently being used for some serious security operations. Its not a waste of resources afterall, just wish we could make better economic use of its payload.
