Novak Djokovic of Serbia captured his third Grand Slam title in 2015 with a four-set win over Roger Federer of Switzerland in a rain-delayed final at the U.S. Open on Sunday.

After waiting for three hours to get the championship match underway due to the weather, Djokovic showed cool nerves and gritty determination in overcoming a pro-Federer crowd at Arthur Ashe Stadium to win 6-4, 5-7, 6-4, 6-4.

Both players looked choppy in the first set: Federer's serve let him down while Djokovic needed time to recover from a scraped arm after a hard fall early on.
Once Federer and Djokovic settled into the groove in the second set, the patient fans that waited out the rain delay were treated to tennis at the highest level—both athletically and tactically.

Though the crowd tagged Djokovic as the underdog, the World No. 1 embraced his role against 34-year-old Federer—a 17-time Grand Slam champion who's nearing the end of his prime at age 34.

The win is Djokovic's second at the U.S. Open and 10th career Grand Slam. In peak physical shape at the age of 28, he has every opportunity to eventually challenge tennis' all-time records as one of the greatest players ever.
