SPP/EDU/CONS_! - Education Consultants (all levels)
Posted: 14/10/2016 12:28
Start Date: Not Available
Salary: Competitive
Location: Oxford
Level: Consulting
Deadline: 30/11/2016 23:59
Hours: 37.50
Benefits: Competitive
Job Type: Permanent

Do you want an exciting job in education policy and research, based in one of our global locations? Oxford Policy Management’s education portfolio is recruiting.

We are seeking talented and dynamic individuals to join our team at all levels and in all five technical areas: systems, metrics, finance, early childhood development and inequality. Successful applicants may specialise in one area or have several strings to their bow. OPM staff engage in challenging, problem solving and highly technical work that also requires flexibility, patience and sensitivity. They will work across several different projects, often at the same time. They should also expect to spend significant time in project locations, whether in government ministries, project offices, or schools and communities.

New recruits are normally based in Oxford initially, but we are looking for staff to be based short- or long-term in our offices and projects around the world, and in particular (but not only) in Abuja (Nigeria), Delhi (India), and Oxford (UK).

We are seeking applicants for permanent staff roles at three levels of seniority:

Principal consultant: you lead large programmes, have the ear of senior policymakers in low and middle income countries, and are regarded as a leading education expert.

Senior consultant: with a significant number of years of experience in education in low and middle income countries, you have strong relationships with policymakers, manage large projects, and likely also have a record of high quality publications on education.

Consultant: you are a highly regarded technician who works across a range of fields in education with several years of relevant work experience, supported by senior colleagues. You work with policymakers and may have some important publications.

OPM is one of the world’s leading international policy development and management consultancies. Since we were initially formed in the 1970s as a research group in the University of Oxford, we’ve been focused on reducing poverty and disadvantage through world class policy research, support and advice.

Our education portfolio helps governments in low- and middle-income countries deliver high quality learning opportunities for all on a sustainable basis by working in five technical areas:

Transforming education systems to ensure learning keeps pace with a changing world, including managing ‘Research on Improving Systems of Education’ (RISE);

Developing education metrics to better measure teaching and learning, including for our many complex impact evaluations education programmes in Nigeria, Tanzania and elsewhere.

Improving education financing to ensure education resources are appropriate, efficient, effective and equitable, including research on how to use natural resources to fund education;

Reforming early childhood development to ensure children are well prepared for later life, including a systematic review of what interventions work; and

Improving education equality to ensure no children are left behind, including building evidence on out of school children in the MENA and South Asia regions.

We believe effective consulting requires deep knowledge of the political, economic, social and educational contexts in which we work, and we orient our teams and projects to achieve this. We work directly with governments and donors, but also contribute to the academic debate. We engage long-term on countries and issues to ensure that we contribute to sustainable capacity for effective education. Consultants typically work across several different projects, often at the same time. They undertake a diverse range of interesting and highly technical work that also requires flexibility, patience and sensitivity.

We would be pleased to hold initial discussions with anyone who has the relevant expertise and background including:

Intellectual curiosity and academic excellence: a degree and post-graduate qualification (at least a masters) in relevant discipline (such as economics, education or development studies), probably finishing in the top 10% of your cohort.

A demonstrated passion for development and commitment to achieving results and having a positive impact on the world, particularly in improving education outcomes in low- and middle-income countries, and an awareness of the technical and political challenges involved.

Entrepreneurial skills and leadership potential, who are able to manage their own time effectively in a busy environment.

Problem-solving skills, and an approach that is flexible, consultative, adaptable yet perfectionist.

Experience in education relevant to the seniority level and technical specialism you apply for.

OPM offer a competitive salary, an excellent pension scheme and generous holiday entitlement.

To learn more about these opportunities and what it is like to work in the education portfolio please download the attached publication http://www.opml.co.uk/publications/recruitment-education-team-opm

Please note, that as part of the recruitment process, OPM will establish which role you might be suitable for.

The review date for applications is: 30th November 2016 but we would advise you to apply early to avoid disappointment
