The Vice Chancellor of the University of Jos, Prof Hayward Mafuyai while speaking to journalists in a press briefing at the senate chambers, Bauchi road campus, of the institution, revealed that, of the 16, 543 graduating 2014/15 academic session students,
a total of 29 graduates had obtained first class Degrees, 1,548 obtained a second Class Upper Degree bracket, 7860 obtained a Second Class Lower Degree Division and 2750 in Third Class Degree Division.

However, 520 persons obtained the Pass Degree which allegedly will be abolished soon.

He also spoke on several plans being put in place to commemorate the institution's 40th anniversary which colludes with the 27th/28th combined convocation ceremonies.

Out of 16,500+ students, only 29 could graduate with first class!!! That's what happens when a university's system is archaic. If things continue like this, Nigerian universities will never be among top 10,000 in the world.

The same people who have 2nd class degrees will end up graduating with 1st class in more advanced universities in countries like the UK and USA. What does that tell us? That the system here is faulty and people are finding it very hard to cope.

Universities don't have a fixed curriculum, lecturers are outdated and some of them will even be proud to tell you that you can't score 90% in their course and the students too will be happy about it.

In some Nigerian universities, no matter what you write, you can't get more than a C, some departments will tell you they haven't graduated a 1st class for 10 years.... Schools like FUTA have such animalistic records and they are proud of it. It only shows they have unintelligent lecturers who cannot impart knowledge.

The only advice I have for Nigerian graduates is to just get the certificate and for professional development, please look beyond the four walls of your school otherwise a very sharp O'level holder who has skills will just use his SUV to splash water on you while you're carrying your 2.1 CV about.
