Manchester City began yet another European campaign with defeat on Tuesday and you have to wonder when it starts taking a toll on their confidence. It came at a cost as well, losing skipper Vincent Kompany to injury. Last year they did really well to combat the surplus of matches, losing just once in the league between their first and last group stage match. That being said, the quality of some of the middling Premier League clubs has increased drastically over the summer and with there being very few guaranteed victories, they will have to be careful not to linger on the Juventus loss or it could jeopardize their position atop the table.

12' City are back on the front foot yet again, pushing the pace and adopting a real sense of urgency about their play. There's a lovely tempo to the game throughout these opening stages, but you get the sense West Ham would like to slow proceedings when they get the chance.
