• Imo chief nabbed for robbery months after coronation

• I only vandalize cars –Suspect

For Mbaise people in Imo State, Ifeanyi Nwigwe is one of the respectable men in the land, hence the choice of making him the Aku enwe ebe 1 of Ezinihitte Mbaise  (money is not restricted to any town). But months after he was crowned by the community, Ifeanyi was arrested in Lagos for robbery and now cooling his heels in detention.

Saturday Sun gathered that prior to his installation as the Aku enwe ebe 1 of Ezinihitte Mbaise, the suspect had been on the wanted list of the Lagos State police command whose operatives eventually arrested him along with his relative, Vincent Emezuem over a armed robbery incident in the state. Now guests at the Special Anti Robbery Squad, Ikeja, Lagos, the duo admitted to having vandalized hundreds of cars in Lagos and other states.

It was learnt that following intelligence reports on the activities of car vandals in Lagos, the  state Commissioner of Police, Umaru Manko directed the commander of SARS, Abba Kyari, who deployed detectives that tracked Ifeanyi down at ASPAMDA market where he had a shop stocked with motor spare parts. Realising that the game was up, the suspect was said to have fled and resurfaced when he felt the coast was clear. Unfortunately for him, the detectives, who knew his modus operandi, caught him in the act in the Ojo area of Lagos while he was busy doing what he knows best, car vandalization.

Giving an insight into how he ventured into the world of crime, the suspect said: “Shortly after I graduated from the Federal Polytechnic, Nekede Owerri, Imo State, my elder brother requested that I should relocate to Lagos and join him in his business. He was into auto parts business at ASPAMDA market, Lagos.

“I learnt the trade for one year and while I was waiting to raise money and start up my own shop, I decided to relocate to Ladipo market where second hand products known as tokunbo are sold. I joined a group of young men who served as middle men between customers and the main dealers. All they do is to source for customers and refer them to a dealer who has the product in his shop. You will be paid an agreed commission for each customer you bring.

“It was while I was in the process that I realised that most of the goods sold at Ladipo market were stolen. Reason being that they are sold cheap to mechanics and customers who decide to come and pick themselves.”

Desperate and impatient, Ifeanyi decided to cut corners by learning how to get those cheap motor parts from the right source. “I discovered that those who were supplying these stolen motor spare parts were driving cars and building houses. I briefly learnt from one Martin, how to successfully vandalize cars undetected. So, sometime in 2010, I went into full vandalization. Initially, our target areas were in big churches where they park cars carelessly without any security man ensuring the safety of the cars.

“It was becoming risky, so we started working at night and I discovered that for every successfully operation, we will almost leave with a bag full of motor spare parts. These include motor top gasket which we normally sell to dealers at the price of N10,000, N15,000 or even N20,000 depending on  the content. Others are side mirrors, the head lamps and so many other things that are in hot demand in the market. In Nigeria, there is much demand for Toyota and Honda products, so we concentrate on these two brands,” Ifeanyi further said.

For over three years, Ifeanyi made so much money and never forgot to extend the proceeds to family and friends. He also acquired so much wealth that he was able to start up his business, by securing a shop at the ASPAMDA market where brand new motor parts are sold. “God was on my side and the business flourished. I wanted to stop stealing; I saved so much money and rented a shop at ASPAMDA market. I also ordered a container load of brand new motor spare parts.

“Naturally, when you are making progress, people will love to associate with you. My community recognised me because I was so generous. This has always been my dream to help people better their lives. In recognition of my contribution to the progress of my community, I was elected as the financial secretary of our village meeting. Impressed by my performance, I was made the Aku enwe ebe 1 of Ezinihitte Mbaise in 2012.”

Unfortunately, Ifeanyi never knew that his crime was gradually catching up with him. Hundreds of his victims reported his activities to the police hence the manhunt. In 2013, they tracked him down but he escaped when he learnt that policemen visited his house and shop. “I had sincerely stopped stealing when they came for me. I wanted to hand myself over to the police but when I learnt that it was SARS, Ikeja, I decided to run for my life. For months I had nothing doing and only relied on my savings in the bank. When it finished, I had no choice but to return to the business of vandalizing cars.

“I needed to retain my honour in the eyes of my community so that I will not lose my respect. It was while on duty (vandalizing a car) on May 11, 2014 that the police arrested me. I am terribly sorry and I ask for another opportunity to get it right,” Ifeanyi pleaded.

His accomplice and relation, Vincent, confirmed his story and begged that they should be forgiven. “Our own style of robbery is different. We do not carry guns but instruments that will assist us to open a car with ease. We also go along with fireworks, this is necessary to scare anyone who dares to come close when we are on duty vandalizing cars. I am a father of three boys and I wanted to give my children a good life by sending them to school. Please, forgive us for the sake of my children,” Vincent said.

Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Valentine Ntomchukwu during the parade of suspects at the Eleweran State Police Command Headquarters in Abeokuta

The Commissioner of Police, Valentine Ntomchukwu while parading the suspects said the arrest covers a period of three months, adding that the achievements were a commitment to making sure that the command succeeds in its war against crimes.

He gave a breakdown of the arrests which include; Cultism/Murder as fifteen, Kidnappers as three, and armed robbery as four, adding that a number of exhibits were also recovered including a Toyota Highlander SUV, Five mobile phones, live cartridges, one cut to size barrel gun, one berretta pistol with serial number defaced, one locally made single barrel pistol, assorted charms, one sword and two locally made guns.

"Today the command is disposed to showcase to the whole world its modest achievements in curbing cultism and other criminalities in the state. The command will forever be grateful to all law abiding members of the public for supporting the intelligence-driven and people-oriented policing in Ogun State," he said.

"I want to appreciate the good people of Ogun State for your support and commitment in making sure the command succeeds in its war against cultism and violent crimes in Ogun State," Ntomchukwu emphasized.

He further added that, the public should always have confidence in the command, just as he declared and assured that, the era of judicial killings is gone, but also declared that criminals will not be given a breathing space in the state.

The Commissioner gave identities of the cultism and murder suspects to include among others; Gbenga Adeoye, Ifaseyi Adeoye, Animashaun Oluwafemi, Tosin Lanlege, Opeyemi Ogunnowo, Moses Akinniyi, Oluwaseun Dalamu, Ahmed Idowu, Dare Alaba, Azeez Alimi, Biodun Yinusa, Muba Salimi, Sunday Folorunsho, Ovie Konjo and Dare Adeoye.

The kidnapping suspects were identified as Oluyeye Akintunde and Samuel Adewunmi, while those arrested in connection with armed robbery are; Azeez Omotosho, Ibrahim Yusuf and Jimoh Quadri. He said, upon completion of investigations, suspects would be charged to court.

Ntomchukwu also gave kudos to the family of the kidnapped victims for cooperating with the police, in ensuring that, the suspects were tracked down, stressing that, it was their confidence that made it possible for the police to crack the devilish kidnappers who had been on the prowl in the state.

"Where victims family rushes to pay ransom, the police will not be able to help, and the crime remains unsolved. It is the determination of the state police command to sustain this fight until all kidnappers and cultists are completely routed," the police boss said.

Crimes are committed by all tribes but it's true it's more prevalent in some than the others.

May God help us all.

no one wants to argue with you. Your life is a joke. You point a report of a criminal and then generalize it. By your logic, Americans are all murderers. But for the yorubas, everyday we hear news reports of ritualists rampaging your city. Instead of addressing your issues, you shift attention to the east so as to please your ignorance. You're lucky nairaland no longer puts up ritual reports of Yorubas in front page

Lol. Buddahmonk, I get it. Those guys are criminals and never claim to be entrepreneurs or anything close to it. Yoruba entrepreneurs will never be found doing crime, they are genuine in their business.

What is bothering is the claim to entrepreneurship and industry by Ibos, only to find that the enterprise and business is a haven for crime. Almost everutime an Ibo is cauvht in crime their story revolves around the same attributes....."im a businessman"; "business was slow"; "i lost money in investment"; "i was introduced to it".....

You cannot mention Ibo in Lagos without mentjoning Ladipo, Alaba and ASPAMDA....every Ibo criminal caught in Lagos has a rsference and connection to one of these locations. Why, can you speak to that?

This was how Otedola's , Adenugas , Alakijas made it stealing crudes from Niger Delta.

The reason why we don't hear of those killings perpetuated by wealthy yorubas is that they belong to similar occultic group ogboni confraternity that knows how to cover up their crimes.

The Yoruba said no and that it was Oyenusi.Oyenusi As a matter of fact . Oyenusi taught Annini all he knew about armed robbery.Oyenusi Then I told them that the Ibos had been killing traders on their ways to the east more than 20 years before Oyenusi knew anything about armed robbery. That the Ibos are now into computer cyber profiteering and that it will take another 20 years from then before the Yorubas can know about .Ibos cyber crime and the Bendelite 40 years from then. So my . friend, the Ibos are already cyber super criminals.

To the rhesus comparing regions, Southeast is the least valued region anywhere in Nigeria.

Here is how to compare development in real economic terms. The Nigerian currency, Naira, is a common denominator and so holds value whether you are in Enugu or Ibadan. But we know, based on migration and investment numbers that Ibos are the ones migrating and investing in other regions because the quality of social living in these other regions is superior to that obtainable in Iboland. Therefore assuming we have individual and different currency based on the distinct economies of each region....so that Yorubaland has its own currency, lets call it Alare pound, Ibo has its own currency, lets call it Biafran pound, .....it will take a million Biafran pound to buy one Alare pound at exchange.

What this means is that an Ibo in Yorubaland is far much valuable than an Ibo in alaibo by a million. This is so because security, commodity market, social justice, liberty, entertainment....and everything else instituted in West by Yorubas is a million times better when scaled against same criterias in East. This explains the migration and also the mindset to accept being a lower class untitled citizens in Yorubaland than the privilege of pedigree status back home in Alaibo.

This is a true measure of class in Nigeria.

A lie may travel for a thousand miles, but it takes just one step of truth to catch up with it.

The voodoo analysis above can only exist in the phantasy world of ewedu eaters. It's no longer news that Yorubas thrive mainly on an atmosphere of lies, falsehood and propaganda.

If the abysmal thinking of the op that assembled the garbage above holds any water why are the Yorubas most vocal against Biafra

Yorubas have used every known tricks to attempt to quench the call for a separate state of Biafra. Many mischievous Yorubas have taken to the internet camouflaging as South-South people and South-East people, feigning undying fake love like never before and putting forth baseless theories why the idea of Biafra should not be allowed to fly.

Recall that in the heat of their numerous nightmares frustrated Yorubas have created numerous threads on Nairaland in their desperate attempts to stop Biafra agitation. Due to the resounding responses they received on such threads Yorubas had to quickly call for such threads to be deactivated! Fact#

If at all Yoruba economy is better than the Igbo economy why are it's people worse hit by the dwindling crude oil prices

If Yoruba economy was in any way superior to Igbo economy Ekiti State will not deem it wise to send its citizens to Aba in Abia State for vocational training, to equip them to be able to create wealth for themselves and improve the economy of the State just like Eastern region.

If Yoruba economy was superior to that of Igbos why is hunger ravaging its people to the extent that concerned individuals from other parts of Nigeria had to come to their rescue, donating cash and food to ensure that they survive the economic crunch occasioned by low crude oil revenue?

And through all this period there was no cause for alarm amongst the Igbos in Igboland. Not even in Abia State where the civil servants were being owed their salaries, courtesy of the State's strong informal sector unlike Osun State where the phantom internally generated revenue (IGR) was a lie of fabricated figures
to massage the egos of Yoruba Kingdom.

T.A Orji of Abia State was labelled as the worst governor in the last dispensation by Igbos on NL and even in the outside world. Nobody criticized TA Orji and his failure in Abia than Igbos. Yet mischievous Yorubas kept lying to themselves of the sterling performance of Rauf Aregbesola of Osun State who was as bad as T.A.

Yoruba media propagandists churned out statistics of how Osun State has blossomed to being able to do without the free handouts from federal government (courtesy of the crude oil wealth from another man's backyard) and yet before you could say JACK the State became comatose and bankrupt.

Of what good is the big size of Oyo State when Ebonyi State is more developed than it? For the myopic Yorubas with poor geography of a place they call their 'country' the smallest State in size in Igbo land is about 3 times the size of Lagos State.

Find below the desperate attempts in the past by mischievous Yoruba voodooists to portray Yoruba economy as good:

Yorubas accuse Igbos of being too smart in business and therefore should not be trusted. The implication is that they unconsciously accept the Igbos as having superior IQ and business sense.

And when credible institutions publish the results of their studies showing Igbos as chart-toppers Yorubas begin to search for straws to hold onto to fault the research. You wonder why they become so rattled and agitated at such results.
Business is all about smartness and no dullard or book-theory person can do better in a business than a person with native intelligence.

Mental superiority makes you want to find your own space.
Mentally dull people hate radical changes and want to just keep doing the same thing.

There is a correlation between Igbo achievements and 21 billion dollars remittances back into Nigerian economy on yearly basis as evidenced by statistics from Western Union. A less backward or less enterprising group of treasury looters cannot achieve such feat.

The Igbo youths are born into a society where they always have to think fast else they will be like Yorubas who live on free handouts from Abuja. Igbos always try as much as possible to excel in their various pursuits in life. Little wonder you see many Igbos competing on the world-stage.

Without government connections and patronage, Wale Tinubu, Jimoh Ibrahim, Femi Otedola, Mike Adenuga etc. of Yoruba tribe will be nowhere today, and that's why every now and then you would hear them being linked with one financial crime or the other.

Nigeria economy assumed a downward trend when the Yorubas and their Northern co-travellers acquired all Nigerian companies by virtue of indigenization decree of 1972. But they could not manage the companies instead they ruined, defrauded, liquidated, bankrupted and destroyed all the companies - that was the mother of destruction of Nigerian economy! The swindlers indeed bastardized the Nigerian economy.
And to divert attention from their ineptitude and crass looting of the treasury Yorubas would use illogical reasoning to attempt to bamboozle other people while pointing accusing fingers elsewhere!

After more than 40 years, despite the stolen wealth, the Yoruba land cannot be said to be transformed and be one of the enviest in the world. None of their cities could be likened to, say the least, Johannesburg!

Inspite of the tortuous journey the Igbo man passed/passes through to achieve success the criminal system in place and the Yoruba gang will not allow the Igbo man be. Yorubas are bitter and angry at the success of the Igbos, that they use any given opportunity at their disposal to remind Igbos that they are the ones who accommodated them and therefore they should abide by their dictates, whims and caprices, including being coerced to vote the candidate of the host's choice in election.

With all the disadvantages Igbos faced and still face after the 1967-70 they rose from grass to grace and Yorubas are not even ashamed to compare Igbos with treasury looters.

There is no law on this earth that prohibits free movement of people and participation in government. It takes a man of courage to venture into an unknown terrain and conquer it. The Chinese are doing it. The British, Portuguese, French, Italian, Spanish, Japanese etc. did it. If the great Roman Empire hadn't ventured no one would have known they were great. Today many American businesses are located offshores in China, Saudi Arabia, Tokyo, United Arab Emirate and they are still venturing out to conquer unknown terrains.

For you to be great you have to venture out of your comfort zone. This is the true character of the ever industrious and peace-loving Great Igbo Nation. As of today it would be an understatement to aver that Igbos control 50% of the economy of Lagos and its environs. You see, it pays to venture out instead of lazing around touting and disturbing the peace of the society.

Is that all you have to say to this indictment? This is not a tribal thread , i advise you go hawk your bigotry elsewhere.

In the bolded text, I advise you check the title again "Are Ibos Entrepreneurs Or Successful Criminals? " If it is not a tribal thread as claimed, why not talk about the character and not the people? if he is guilty of the claim, does that make Ibos to be guilty of his sin?

princdebola201, you had the guts to brag against Igbos. You and your Yoruba tribe should be ashamed of yourselves for dare comparing Igbos with Yorubas.

You should be ashamed of yourselves for being in the habit of using other regions to shield your cowardly mien. It's shameful that a typical Yoruba person cannot make his stand known without dragging some other tribes along. If it is not distorting history, it is ass-licking your slave masters by propagating lies of how your slave masters have always been peace-loving and accommodative and that it is the Igbos who provoke their host! Yet the Christian minorities and other Southerners in the North and in the Middle-belt continue are being maltreated and relegated to the background.
It is so disgusting and pathetic already!

You mentioned curse, what kind of curse are you referring to?
Is it the curse Alaafin of Oyo placed on the young braggard, Bode Thomas, for arrogantly insulting his office? Bode Thomas barked and barked like a dog till he kicked the bucket! Is that not the same way many Yorubas are barking on Igbo matter?

Is it the curse that made your god, Awolowo, to die in a miserable way?

Is it the curse that made your warrior, Benjamin Adekunle, a.k.a the scorpion, to eat his own excrement before he chose death in 2014? The was same Adekunle who mocked the pope, Red Cross, Caritas, World Council of Churches, UN etc.

What about your Field Marshall, MKO Abiola, who sunk containers of Christian materials and paid off the importer just to impress his slave masters in the North? Was it not this atrocious deed amongst many others that brought curse upon him which led him to his Waterloo?

So, what curse are you referring to?
Is it the curse on your slave masters or yourself?

Despite Awolowo’s free education, is the South-West not the worst hit by illiteracy in the South?
Whose region is being ravaged by internationally acclaimed drug peddlers, high-profile assassinations, frequent ritual-killings and treasury lootings?

Whose region is being ravaged by carnage, blood letting, terrible and strange diseases, abject poverty and penury?

I'm just trying to be as modest as possible with my choice of words.

Let's go down memory lane.

After the civil war, your god, Awolowo, defrauded the Igbo Nation, robbing her of her enormous wealth and transferring same to you parasites. As the Finance Minister, Awo, gave a paltry £20 to Igbo men who proved they had an account in the bank. That was all the Igbo man started life with!

And in 1971/72 Awo and his criminal gang colluded and issued the indigenisation decree which compelled the British companies to give up ownership of their companies.
With the stolen money from Igbo men's sweat at their disposal Yorubas in conjunction with their Northern co-travellers were able to acquire the companies in Nigeria.

Igbos started life from ground zero after the civil war with just £20, with their lands devastated, farmlands destroyed, markets destroyed, schools levelled, hospitals broken-down, with hunger ravaging her people and the children at the mercy of  kwashiorkor. Inspite of these debilitating factors Igbos being a resilient people exerted themselves and within a short while they are at the top, competiting only with themselves.

As if the bank robbery was not enough and inspite of the 3Rs strategy mapped out to rehabilitate the Eastern region, Gowon and the subsequent regimes diverted the crude oil revenue from the East to develop Lagos State into a mega-city. And here you are bragging about same Lagos cum SW. Is Lagos State your father's land? Common migrants making noise as if they own Lagos. FYI, Lagos was built with the blood and sweat of every ethnic group in Nigeria! Take it or leave it! Nigeria or no Nigeria, you and your ilks CAN NOT do ANYTHING about it!

So far the Igbos have done well for themselves. The Igbos now boast of the best middle class, the most educated, the most enterprising, the most ambitious, goal getters and achievers.

Igbos survived the policy of strangulation imposed on them them by Gowon and Awolowo. And they are still surmounting some other criminal policies put in place by the criminal gang to checkmate the progress of the Igbos - quota system, federal character, admission catchment areas in schools, cut off marks for admission, fraudulent census figure, false voters register, lopsided local government areas and the likes.

And now Igbos are more than equal to the Yorubas and their co-travellers who were bequeathed with Nigeria's wealth on a plater of gold. The criminal gang acquired virtually all oil wells. They cornered over 85% of the oil wells as their prize for the war they prosecuted against the Eastern region.

princdebola201, and you're here comparing yourself with that same man you robbed his wealth; the same people who would need to get higher scores than the Yorubas to gain admission into schools.

Just by being Igbo by birth, Igbo standards have become too high even amongst themselves, but that has not made them lose heart and in fact it brought out the best out of them.

Inspite of the tortuous journey the Igbo man passed/passes through to achieve success the criminal system in place and the gang will not allow the Igbo man be. The gang is bitter and angry at the success of the Igbo man, that they use any given opportunity at their disposal to remind Igbos that they are the ones who accommodated them and therefore they should abide by their dictates, whims and caprices, including being coerced to vote the candidate of the host's choice in election.
But the Igbo man's resolve remains strong.

And you are here boasting of Folorunso Alakija who acquired her wealth from the commonwealth, from the crude oil in another man's backyard! It's a shame!

Before the 1967-70 civil war, an average Yoruba man did not measure up to the ever industrious Igboman. Even in the South-West Igbos were in the lead. Igbos were the first Black Vice Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, the first VC of the University of Lagos and the first Nigerian Rector of the then Yaba College of Technology in the South-West; the police was run by an Igbo IG; the military as a professional institution was run by brilliant Igbos; the first president of Nigeria and the first military ruler of Nigeria.

Nigeria economy assumed a downward trend when the gang acquired all Nigerian companies by virtue of indigenization decree of 1972. But they could not manage the companies instead they ruined, defrauded, liquidated, bankrupted and destroyed all the companies - that was the mother of destruction of Nigerian economy! The swindlers indeed bastardized the Nigerian economy.
And to divert attention from their ineptitude and crass looting of the treasury they would use illogical reasoning to attempt to bamboozle other people while pointing accusing fingers elsewhere!

After more than 40 years, despite the stolen wealth, the respective regions of the criminal gang cannot be said to be transformed and be one of the enviest in the world. None of their cities could be likened to, say the least, Johannesburg!

With all the disadvantages Igbos faced and still face they rose from grass to grace and you are not even ashamed to compare them with treasury looters.

It's not how far but how well!

Time shall tell...
