Ndigbo Have No Regrets Voting Against Buhari, Says Ohaneze-the Guardian by HungerBAD: 1:56am On Sep 25, 2015
Following overwhelming votes cast by the South East zone for ousted President Goodluck Jonathan in the last general elections, the Ohaneze Ndi Igbo, a Pan-Igbo group, has said the region has no regrets for not voting in favour of President Muhammadu Buhari.

The group said the voting pattern in the last elections, which appears tilted towards the Southern region as opposed to the northern candidate, was a demonstration of the will of Ndigbos to speak in one voice.

Speaking yesterday in Abuja at a press conference to kick-start the 2015 Igbo Day celebration, President of the group, in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mazi Odozi Elijah Nwodozi, stated that the voting trend might also have put to rest, insinuations that Igbos lack unity of purpose, adding that the people voted their conscience rather than for pecuniary gains.

“In the 2015 elections, Ndigbos made a clear choice; it was decisive. We made the best choice, as known to us. So, we have no regrets — whether, or not, we are being punished for that choice. We are in a democracy. The president is the president of all, irrespective of how any region voted.

“This simply shows character, that if an Igbo man decides to support you, he does so no matter the consequence. That shows we are unwaivered,” he said.

According to him, the region realises that the government of the day is undermining Ndigbos by virtue of appointments so far made, but said the region remains unperturbed.

“Ndigbos are strong people. We are like a phoenix; we always rise from our ashes. We cannot be broken as a people. We will surely get to the promised land,” he added.

While saying that September 28 and 29 have been earmarked for the celebration of the Igbo Day in Abuja, Nwodozi added that the voting pattern in the 2015 general election had many implications.

“Ndigbos, without doubt, made a bold statement through the ballot box on March 28, 2015.We achieved three major milestones, namely, a true reconciliation with our brothers in the old eastern region — an exhibition of the readiness of Ndigbos to allow minority ethnic group play active roles in the leadership of the nation. It was also a major achievement in that it showed unity of purpose. And the voting pattern also debunked the age long insinuation that Igbos have no unified voice,” Nwodozi said.

In his remark, Vice President of the Pan-Igbo group, Chief Anayo Arinze, also stated that the Igbos were prepared to work with anyone who would cater for the needs of the region, but said mutual respect must first be established. He added that Igbos are law-abiding, industrious, and peaceful people who seek justice and equity in all facets of deliverable amenities in the country.

Meanwhile, the World Igbo Day, the group re-iterated, would be celebrated in Abuja. It would be attended by notable Igbo leaders from all walks of life in and outside the shores of the country, said the group.

Enough of this bush-baby (egbere) kind of cry, it's over 6 months, even a woman whose husband died had moved on & trying to re build her life!!!

This simply shows character, that if an Igbo man decides to support you, he does so no matter the consequence. That shows we are unwaivered,” he said.

Just as the SE had their choice of being religious & tribal antagonist, the SW & NC chose to no longer mortgage their future with an inept, insensitive & weak leader, who wasn't meeting their basic needs

Appointment of a "few" is not enough trade in for Quality Education , Food, security, good roads, efficient & affordable transportation system etc..

It may be enough for some SE folks, it is not enough for the SW & NC who swung the votes...

It's more honourable to stand for something than be a group of unstable, noisy ass-lickers who are notorious in standing for nothing. The latter is shameful and pathetic!

The Igbos did not vote against Buhari because Jonathan was perfect or because Buhari will not 'fight corruption' rather they said he hates them so much as a people, hate their dominant religion(Christianity) and will marginalise them. Buhari have in one hundred day proved them right. Today they have been vindicated I see.

in addition to you point, these set of ppl voted gej thinking he will come again so that he can continue licking their ass but the story was different and that's why dey came fully with their plan B (Biafra).

If it was gej that won the election, the rise in movement of Biafra won't be much but they still have nothing to do about it because Nigeria is a country on it's own so therefore you can't form another country on this same soil. Ipob/Biafra should look for land else where to form their country. Simple as ABC.

A typical Igbo man will rather work hard and exist without Government aid, that is why he can afford to voice out his opinion anytime anywhere but the yorubas have have been stripped of their land, dignity, honour and even religion by the Hausas/Fulanis hence their tendency to always support the North.

What do you call being maltreated during & after the civil war by the Ijaws, & still going on a vote padding spree for an ijaw man?

It's called greed & self centredness...

Ibos didn't align with "the clueless one" out of love & comradeship, it was a calculated move purely out of spite... sad

An Ijaw man's administration 'carried' the Igbos along unlike the others before him hence their love and support for him. Buhari 'hates' them. ( his past and present administrations thus prove) and they are unapologetic for giving him less than 3% votes. It's all about personal interest for the Igbos! The yorubas voted Buhari 80% based on fear of the masters and 20% based on Osubande.

IGBOS ARE NOT INTERESTED IN THE PRESIDENCY OR POLITICAL APPOINTMENTS TO SURVIVE AND EXCEL!

If you have the political clout to win any national elections you wouldn't shamelessly depend on under-age voters and over-cooked voters population.

You have only flourished at the expense of others by virtue of the injustice, inequity and lopsided arrangement in the polity.

Your greatest fear for Igbos is that you know that they will waste no time in dismantling the evil status quo in the Nigerian system, and therefore you have become accustomed to spreading lies and wicked propaganda to keep the peace-loving and industrious Igbos at bay.

Despite not being in power the Igbos have fared far better than the regions of the criminal gang who raped and wrecked this false union, plunging her into the current cesspit.

The SE zone are chart-toppers of most socio-economic indices with the zone having the largest concentration of the middle-class in the country. Such performance was not achieved by noise making or government patronage.

That Igbos were able to rise from the ashes of the civil war of 1967-70 with just £20 to achieve so much success for themselves even without depending on the government is a testament of their mental superiority.

After 45 years of great looting of the treasury the regions of the criminal gang that were not touched by a single bomb cannot boast of having a choice city comparable to, say the least, Johannesburg, but rather are replete with brown rusted roofs, strange diseases, poverty, mass illiteracy, religious killings and destruction of means of livelihoods.

Igbo children and youths have proven over the decades to be better than their counterparts in other regions who have used access to power to enrich themselves and convert the commonwealth to personal wealth.

You accuse igbos of being too smart in business and therefore should not be trusted. The implication is that you unconsciously accept the Igbos of having superior IQ.
And when credible institutions publish the results of their studies showing Igbos as chart-toppers you begin to search for straws to hold onto to fault the research. You become so rattled and agitated at such results.

With or without political posts, the Igbos are shining on the world stage already. They shall continue to shine bright like diamond.
