Over the past twenty years, information technology has transformed the society we live in. Computers and the internet have proliferated into every aspect of life, including our educational system. Schools, are gradually replacing blackboards and chalk with interactive smart walls and pointers. A lot of students are even taking notes on their iPads, smart phones and laptops in class. The scenario has just changed.

Gone are the days when projectors were seen as “high-tech” gadget in the classroom and some schools are already conducting general entrance examination with laptops and computers. All of these shows the level of improvement in the system.

We thought to check out some of the top universities in Nigeria. They were picked based on their sophisticated level of environment, quality of lecturers, their societal impact, the level in the use of technology, level of world recognition and the quality of graduates they produce.

Obafemi Awolowo University

Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta
The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Ogun State (FUNAAB) was established on January 1, 1988 by the Federal Government after four Universities of Technology, earlier merged in 1984, were demerged. This led to the creation of the first two Universities of Agriculture in Abeokuta and Markurdi.

FUNAAB was awarded the best university in the country by the Nigerian Universities Commission (NUC) consecutively in the year 2002 and 2003. The establishment of the Universities of Agriculture was an entirely new concept for promoting agricultural education and services for agricultural development and attainment of self-sufficiency with food and fibre in Nigeria.

University Of Lagos

Founded in 1962, the University of Lagos has, for over four decades, provided quality and objective education for both Nigeria and neighbouring countries. The University has built a legacy of excellence and has been instrumental in the production of top range graduates and academia that have had tremendous impact, directly or indirectly, on the growth and development of Nigeria. The honours and awards won testify on the positive impact of the University of Lagos on education and academic matters in Nigeria.
