A deep observer of Nigeria from 1960 till date will agree with me we are not united as a nation but rather the presence of crude oil in the Niger Delta is the unifying force of Nigeria and its a shame.

Suffice to say that we gained independence only to enter another 'crude oil slavery'. Looking at the polity today, you don't need a soothsayer to tell you that Nigeria can never progress with the current structure because it is a consumption dependent structure rather than a production dependent one. In simple terms we are not designed to succeed and unless Nigeria restructure to a system that encourages resource control, we can never get to the promise land.

So why all this celebration? What are we celebrating? The fact that we consider being together a great achievement means something is wrong with our coexistence. Its strange to see the kind of hope people have when the foundation is seriously flawed! We have no choice but to restructure if we must progress!

Nigeria is 55!
The odds we did survive
Arise, salute the nation!
Come join the celebration!
People united will never fall
The sun will shine and the rain will fall
All our land, vast and mighty
Richly blessed by the Almighty
Like bees in a hive, we work so hard to make the honey flow
Not without the use of a hoe.
Arise, salute the nation!
Come join the celebration!
Nigeria is 55! Nigeria is 55!
