UK Wants Alamieyeseigha Extradited

The case of former Bayelsa State Governor, Diepreye Alamieyeseigha, appeared concluded when former President Goodluck Jonathan granted him state pardon, but the British Government seems determined to resurrect the case.

Reports say they have requested for the extradition of the former governor to London.

For the British Government, the former governor has an outstanding case in the UK on money laundering which is there for him to answer.

The Chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee on Corruption, Professor Itse Sagay, was quoted as saying that the President Buhari-led government is prepared to assent to the request of the British Government.

He said that the United Kingdom has every legal right to demand for the extradition of the former Bayelsa State Governor.

“The UK is in principle correct to be making such a request based on the fact that the crime was committed on the British soil. However, when there is delay in trial as a result of time, there may be consideration on legal grounds so that the trial is not seen as oppressive,” he said.

Former Governor Alamieyeseigha, who was facing money laundering charges, jumped bail and returned to Nigeria and has since then refused to answer summons for trial to continue.

Nice!

He who commits a crime and run(jumping a bail), lives to face the trial another day!

He committed a crime in Nigeria where there is no law and was pardoned, what about the money laundering crime against the law of the United Kingdom where there is law?

Alamiesegha will be extradited and seems to be part of the conditions of the agreement made with UK on the war against corruption.

And if the UK refuses to procure the extradition of OBJ over the Haliburton scam, Then Buhari has inscribed to them strictly on who to winch-hunt.

According to the document, which was submitted to President Umaru Yar’Adua in May last year by Mr. Okiro Obasanjo shared the sum of $74 million USD between 2000 and 2001 with his Vice-President, Atiku Abubakar, as well as Funsho Kupolokun and Gaius Obaseki, who were successive heads of the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation during the government’s early years.

During that same time span, said the interim report, Obasanjo and the ruling party, the People’s
Democratic Party, also pocketed $5m from the
Halliburton slush funds.

Other major beneficiaries included General Sani
Abacha, who got $40 million in 1994-95; Ibrahim
Aliyu, $11.7million in 2001-2002; former Minister,
Dan Etete, $2.5 million in 1996-1998; Abdulkadir
Abacha, $1.8 in 1998; and M. G. Bakari, $3.1 million.
