Governor Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa State has said the Igbo are allies of the Ijaw in the national politics of Nigeria

Governor Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa State has said the Igbo are allies of the Ijaw in the national politics of Nigeria.

He stated this on Wednesday when the leadership of Ohaneze Ndigbo in the state conferred the chieftain title of ‘Ekwueme I of Bayelsa State’ on him at Government House,Yenagoa, according to a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Daniel Iworiso-Markson.

Dickson  also received  a staff of office from the Igbo community in the state.

He expressed gratitude to Ndigbo for their show of support and solidarity to the Ijaw nation especially when it mattered most during the 2015 presidential election  in which former President Goodluck Jonathan was defeated by President Muhammadu Buhari.

“Through you, I want to appreciate the entire Ndigbo in Nigeria and in the diaspora for standing by the Ijaw nation through thick and thin, particularly for giving us the solid support when we needed it most”, h e said.

The governor  commended them for their contribution to the state’s economy.

He  promised to set aside a date for a special rally to enable the Igbo community publicly demonstrate support for his  government in view of their voting strength ahead of the December 5 governorship election in the state.

He assured the Igbo community that his administration would work assiduously to secure a more peaceful environment for their businesses to flourish.

He promised to consolidate on the achievements he had recorded in the maintenance of law and order to bring about development, peace and prosperity when re-elected.

He called on them to come out in their numbers to vote for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the poll.

Dickson used the occasion of the ceremony to congratulate them on their successful celebration of the 2015 edition of the Igbo Day in the state, urging them to continue to conduct themselves peacefully.

He said, “Let me also thank you for your resolution yesterday (Tuesday), endorsing me and my deputy for a second term.

“That shows your strong resolve to continue to support and vote for the PDP in the next governorship election.

“You are the single largest non-indigenous community in this state. So, if all of you as united and well-organized as you are vote for the PDP, then it would contribute to the landslide victory that we are already working for.”

In his remarks, the Igwe- in-Council, Ohaneze Ndigbo in Bayelsa, Anthony Uwakwe, explained that the chieftaincy title was bestowed on Governor Dickson in recognition of his pragmatic leadership style.

Uwakwe, who performed the conferment of the chieftaincy title on Governor Dickson, stated that the governor had made tremendous achievements in the last three and half years.

Lol..... Its election time in Bayelsa state and another Ijaw son playing on the psyche of the Igbos again in other to win the coming election in Bayelsa state. Maybe b4 the election, the Name Seriake Dickson might change to or another name that looks and sounds like this may be attached to read or be called Mr Seriake Ikenna Dickson. This is what politics or being hungry for power could cause. Also, if a people or group do not define their political future, others will define it for them. This is the case with the Igbos now in Nigerian political environment.

Igbo and politics of tribe!
As usual, playing politics of hate and tribalism.
God forbids these people ever show on center stage again to come and divide Nigeria along religion and tribal fault lines. They can keep such politics in their region.
