Olympique de Marseille's UEFA Cup defeat at the hands of Shakhtar Donetsk last Thursday could have taken a significant toll on les Phoceens as well as expending a great deal of energy as they futilely tried to reach the semi-finals of the competition. Mamadou Niang and Taye Taiwo picked up injuries in the encounter. The highly-rated Nigerian defender (Taiwo) could be in for a prolonged summer after it was revealed that he could miss the remainder of the season due to injury.
Initially, Taiwo's injury was expected to keep him out for approximately a fortnight. However, ‘OM’ had yesterday revealed that his problem was more significant than it was first considered and he would be missing for a minimum of four weeks. Taiwo spent Monday having tests conducted on his right thigh and the results had shown that a one-month absence could be the best the Nigerian could hope for. There remains hope that the powerful left-back could return for OM's final two fixtures of the season, which would be against Nancy in Lorraine and Stade Rennais at the Velodrome.
Erik Geretsi side have jumped to the summit of Ligue 1, overtaking Olympique Lyonnais a week past on Sunday when a brace of goals from Taiwo helped them overcome Grenoble 4–1. The 24-year-old has played an increasingly influential role for the Provence club in recent weeks and has been linked with several big clubs in the press lately. If he is to move on in the summer, which seems odd at present, then it could be that the Marseille faithful have seen the last of the roving full-back.

Otherwise, there is only good news for Gerets on the injury front. Niang will return to the squad on Thursday, although he is not certain to feature in the weekend's clash against Lille, while Laurent Bonnart, whose season was considered over not so long ago, will return to the squad in approximately in a fortnight’s time.

@poster,
just feel like asking a few questions hoping u will be kind enough to make answers available;

1. can't we for once report positive about our own?
2. how come u have not been following taiwo's news all these while that he has been doing great things in his club?
3. does it mean this forum serves well in negatives than positives?
4. what has gone wrong with our psoitive reasoning?
5. are nigerians more interested in celebrating downfall than progress?
6. when are we going to learn to help our own even when they are not doing well?
7. how come u did not tag this news a breaking news?
8. will it be nice to say we have more anti-progressives here than men with goodwill?
9. will it be polite if i call u one of the prophets of doom in nairaland?
10. what is the best name for those who derieve joy from pedalling negative news and information?

@Cold,
do u know who the epl record signing is? what has impact has he done to justify his worth? what has happened to him till now for not living up to his expectations? what if he is a nigerian?

all the same, good answer from one(1) anti progressive, others please.
the good news is with taiwo life over, he is yet better than some of us who will live forever and ever. we must not forget that life is not about how far rather it is about how well.
most of these guys enjoying heroic positions in life were not born with golden spoon or silver spoon rather they worked themselves into greatness and they are worthy of our praises and not condeminations.
God has made them great and none of us here has what it takes to bring them down not even our worthless gossips. fortunately, our football happiness lies in their hands of which taiwo can decide to score an own goal tomorrow and most of us will jump into the lagoons.

@taiwo,
most of us are praying for u and other nigerian players all over the world. do not be discouraged rather believe that he who started this great and good works in u will surely see u through. if your season is over for real, take time out and come home to see property at choice areas in lagos and abuja. good life is worth living brother. ur legs have played u into good life and that is what u deserve.
get urself a nice moving machine and cruise urself with joy as life is too short.
