Scientist say they have discovered a wide range of species in the eastern Himalayas, the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) reports that over 200 new species have been found since 2009 till date.

According to the WWF, scientists identified an average of 34 new species annually between 2009 and 2014.

The 211 total species found and named over the last few years include: 133 plants, 39 invertebrates, 26 fish and 10 amphibians, as well as one reptile, bird and mammal.

Some of the most exceptional of the species discovered in the ecologically fragile eastern Himalayas in recent years are: a black and white monkey with an upturned nose that causes it to sneeze when it rains, and a “walking” fish among others.

In an attempt to raise awareness of the threats facing the sensitive region, WWF has compiled a survey of wildlife discovered by scientists across Bhutan, northeast India, Nepal, northern Myanmar and southern Tibet.

The Bompu Litter Frog is known for its wrinkly skin and its distinctive blue eyes.

This tiny freshwater ‘Dracula’ fish was discovered in a UK aquarium after it was caught in the wild before being recognised as an undiscovered species.


A blue-coloured “walking snakehead fish” which can breathe air, survive on land for four days and slither up to 400 metres on wet ground.

Meanwhile, a weird animal was found several days ago. The bizarre animal, reportedly the semblance of a half crocodile, half buffalo.

The beast was found by some astonished villagers in High Rock, Wanghin, Thailand.

Though the creature had scaly grey skin of a crocodile and calf-like hooves, still locals insist that the deformed creature was born of a healthy buffalo but the beast died soon after birth.
