Nigeria singer, Onyeka Onwenu has revealed she is not happy with the way women have been neglected in the affairs of the country with men having the larger roles to play. Speaking on Channels television on the role of Women and their participation in governance, she pointed out that Nigeria is not ready to move forward with the perception they continue to have that women cannot manage the affairs of the country.

The singer who once held a political office some years back during Goodluck Jonathan era, stated that women need be given the opportunity to express themselves and allowed to have opportunity in the seat of power just like other countries.

In her own word:

“Nigeria is not doing well; in fact we are going backwards. Although some states are doing very well in some states having women as deputy governors, we still have not had a female governor but when will Nigeria have a woman president, why does it sound so far fetch?

“We need to make it possible for every human being to aspire to be in political office, aspire to serve, aspire to do something for their nation and the women need to be heard and brought in.” “Some men will say a woman is supposed to be in the kitchen, but I think the men are scared. A woman is committed and she wants to make changes because she cares,” she added.

Can this be the reason why Nigeria have failed to fully integrate women in political circle? What is your opinion? I must say that whatsoever women put their mind to, they tend to do it better than men - See more at: http://www.exlinklodge.com/2015/10/why-nigerian-men-are-scared-of-their.html#sthash.64EwaxMC.dpuf

I beg to reason that every woman has equal franchise as the men but the problem now is, will Nigerians elect a woman to lead?

The citizens come first in the blame as it is a case of "vote and be voted for."
