What happened?

Let me keep it simple: I contacted him and a few others over sourcing a car from Cotonou. All went well and we exchanged emails etc. I even called him a few times.

He eventually gave me a price for a car I wanted and I said to him that it is doable but be around till end of the year but I have down along side others who I will keep in touch with. That was some few months ago.


So fast forward a few days ago, I contacted him and asked about prices again (as some of you know, closer to the end of the year, the money tend to fluctuate) but the price this time around seem to have a massive increase or difference of 1million naira plus.

I asked him why the massive price hike. And from my view, no matter how much the money fluctuates, there cannot be a million naira plus difference. After all, Cotonou isn't in Zimbabwe or something.

I tried to explain to him that his original quote was 1.5m and why the massive jump to 2.5m isn't justifiable. He instead said that anyone selling me the car I am after for 1.5m from Cotonou is selling me a car with fake papers.

At this point I screened shot an email where he quoted me 1.5 for a MDX 2005 and then asked if he planned on giving me fake papers or just hiking the price for the sake of it?


He promptly blocked me. And that was that.



Now, I am not upset and I am glad this happened before money exchanged hand. However, a bit of transparency can go a long way.

I also post this because many of us are away from home and need a car to run around for the small time we are back home. Please do ask questions and from my little experience with Hilary Autos, I won't touch him. If he cannot deal with questions in simple things, good luck if your money get into his hand.

I have the correspondence and various screeen shots. I will only post them if they are necessary. I have given the gist of the story.

ERazor stop witch hunting the guy.He did not even scam you sef.Dont try spoiling another person business.

I never said he scammed me. I merely stated that the price hike aren't justifiable and his approach are wrong. I think it is fair to point all of these out. It isn't a witch hunt either. If he's done well, I'll post about it.

I'll like to hear how a price can jump from 1.5 to 2.5 in space of two months.

Elrazur....he didn't ask you to pay any upfront did he? The point is that, he as a seller has whatsoever rights to sell his car!!!

Its left for us as buyers to either refuse or negotiate the price!!! lets stop leveling accusations on people till they prove other wise!!

The guy choose to inflate the price at his will and at your will too..refuse too!! nobi only am get motor to sell!!

Actually there were suggestion of carrying cash but I told him I don't feel comfortable. That's however, besides the point.

I had an agreement (an oral or gentleman's agreement if you like) initially. I told him then I will be in contact as I actually want to come down to Cotonou for the experience etc.

The massive change in price is what I don't understand and then his rude approach.

As it stand, I clearly wouldn't be buying from him and the next time someone else go to him, he'll be forced to at least show some more concsistency and clarity. I think this is one thing many are missing.


There are no (false) allegations here. It is what he did I am stating.

I hope he'll show up to post on here to explain the massive price hike.

A theme that seem to be coming up on here is that I should only wait to speak when I am scammed. LOL. I'm sorry but I refused to be scammed and let you have a cheap thrill at my expense.

When traders act in unpleasant way, it is only normal for the consumer to react in way that counter that. Sigh.
