AFP puts the Boko Haram death toll at more than 1,320 Nigerians alone since Muhammadu Buhari assumed office as Nigeria’s president on the 29th of May.

Boko Haram claimed responsibility for three suicide attacks in Kuje and Nyanya, in the capital, Abuja on October 2, which killed 18 people and further injured another 41.

On Tuesday, Nigeria’s Inspector General of Police, Mr Solomon Arase, revealed that two people had been arrested in connection of the bombings.

He did not disclose the arrested suspects identities but IGP Arase said in a statement the arrests had “foiled another attack attempt in the FCT (Federal Capital Territory)”.

Items recovered from the suspects included “prepared and primed” home-made explosives concealed in soft drink cans, 28 electronic detonator parts and “large quantities” of bomb-making equipment, he revealed.

Nigeria’s military has claimed successes in recent months and has called the recent Boko Haram attacks on civilian targets as “an act of desperation” on the part of the Islamic State loyalty sworn terror group.

President Buhari had promised to crush the Boko Haram terror group in three (3) months but the Islamist militant group has grown in leaps and bound after initially been pushed to the fringes by the past adminstration in its dying minutes – which have led to Nigerians asking if Buhari really has what it takes to crush Boko Haram besides being an ex-military officer.

According to reports on ground in Borno state, the heartland of the Boko Haram insurgency, the people are getting enraged and dissatisfied as they had been promised during the Presidential election camapign that they would no longer have to live in fear of the Abubakar Shekau led group but the opposite has been the situation.
